Biden's marijuana payoff a looming disaster
The Washington Times ^ | October 8, 2022 | Tom Basile

On the ropes and with no message about rising crime or the struggling economy to appeal to voters, President Joe Biden has gone to pot. Literally. The president’s election-eve marijuana decriminalization order has him yet again putting politics over people’s lives and health.

In a shameless attempt to buy the votes of young people and lower-income minority communities, Mr. Biden is waving his pen around again to dig himself out of the political cellar.

The American Left, and some on the Right, along with the Big Tobacco companies already responsible for millions of deaths from their products, have spent heavily to convince communities of color that THC legalization is social justice and the people jailed for breaking the law are victims.

Even more bizarrely, they’ve claimed for years that more marijuana amounts to actual empowerment.

The writer goes on to point out that this deceptive and cynical ploy only affects about 7,000 Federal prisoners, and most of those are serving with other charges thus disqualifying them from release. Much like his proposed student loan forgiveness scheme actually rewards universities and the well off, this one would repay tobacco and alcohol industries ready with products to market for their years of campaign contributions.

This is also another attack on each state's right to determine legislation as it will bring pressure to bear on them to follow the Federal government's example. Overlooking the fact all this is Congress's bailiwick if at all, not the Executive branch.

While I'm personally for marijuana law reforms this is no way to go about it - being used as a cheap attempt to garner votes from under-informed young voters already disregarding legalities for an indulged vice. This usurping regime has already done enough damage allowing drug cartels free reign and access while flooding our nation with poisonous fentanyl. They truly are the party of destruction and death.

Since the vast majority of federal prison sentences are plea deals, you really have to f up to wind up in federal prison. For ANY crime.

I refuse to believe that enhaling pot is any better for your lungs than enhaling tobacco.

It’s actually worse because the tar is thicker. Of course, now a lot of people are either eating it or valine it. But it still messes up your brain no matter how you take it.

All of the school shooters had high amounts of THC in their systems. A family member in law enforcement in Colorado, where they have legalized it, says it has been a disaster, with virtually every driver in a traffic fatality turning out to have THC in their system, and young people being stoned in school most of the time and incapable of learning anything.

Legalizing it anywhere is a disaster, because Americans think that if something is legal it must be good and have the government’s seal of approval, and as we all know, the government can do no wrong and we must all trust the government to know what is best…yeah, right.

And legalizing it is certainly no favor to the black population.

This will go the way of his student loan forgiveness BS vote-grabbing.

Socialist Democrats are going DOWN next month and are pulling out all the stops along the way.

Individual RED state Governors will NOT comply and lawsuits will follow. _resident Potato Head can say whatever he wants. ‘We The People’ will ignore him!

It’s just more pandering to his dopey (literally & figuratively) base. ;)

While you made good points those school shooters were psychologically deranged before THC was a factor. I went through high school (latter 1970s) in the state orphanage when pot was the normal social interaction yet somehow ended up Valedictorian despite that. Saw some stupid pranks but no drug-induced violence whatsoever. And that was where all underage felons went first when their local judges gave up on them.

You must know the black population has lived with marijuana use at least twice as long as the white one, out of the Caribbean slavery era, early jazz culture, etc. They were doing well until the LBJ Democrats "Great Society" dismantled theirs. And if alcohol isn't the factor in most auto accidents it's far more likely a pharmaceutical or texting is.

The ugly reality is it won’t make any difference because it doesn’t matter to most people. They’d rather eat and put gas in their cars.

Your lips to God's ear, Dancing Queen (yes, that made my day).

Got to speak to Donna Summers 20 years back and she was a rock chick at heart. She was both gracious and beautiful.

Black market pot farms in California are driving legal pot farms out of business.
90% of the pot sold in California is from unlicensed farms, black market.

The Left needs people hooked on weed. Can’t have any inconvenient independent thinkers running around.

There was an article yesterday on Powerline Blog that said that the federal government does NOT charge people with simple possession. These were drug dealers who pleaded down from dealing to possession in exchanged for a conviction and reduced sentence. So all the people he is letting out are drug dealers.

The cartels use armed squatters over fishhook booby traps and they’re excellent at buying/corrupting local authorities. The old counterculture types are out in the cold unless they go warrior in response. Not happening when the highest office in the land obviously approves of this.

This is now standard operating procedure in the legal community where defenders, prosecutors and judges value their relationships over the welfare of we fodder on their treadmill. This is how so many of the J6 rubberneckers are getting atrocious sentences looking like villains in news reports - they're given the choice of copping to a lesser plea or near life incarceration.

Like the people on silo duty? I'd prefer they do what they can to retain the semblance of sanity when cooped up with Lord knows who for time on end. Of course I'm not factoring in the current pantywaist anti-patriotic soy-saturated wastes who are being recruited now. I suspect they use those weird rave drugs I wouldn't get near to in my day. Does the military even drug test anymore or has that been let go too?

I have smoked and eaten (accidentally, brownies) marijuana several times in younger years. Every single time I became psychotic. Frightening. Maybe it’s just my biology but pot, for me, is a dangerous drug.
