There doesn’t appear to be a desire for peace on the Ukrainian side. They decided against a settlement months ago, and with the west backing them they feel emboldened.

From the Russian point of view, if I understand it, if there is no agreement for peace their terms, the only solution is the continued destruction of Ukraine. They will not stop with a hostile force threatening them, and neither will the Ukrainians.

It's a good idea to get out of the cold war and USSR mentality....otherwise you are part of the problem as has been said of Nato Military Leaders . That mindset gets in the way of what could be a better world all around.

--- "The online poll of 1,005 Americans showed that 73% agreed that the United States should continue to support Ukraine, despite Russian warnings that it could make use of its nuclear arsenal. Both Democrats and Republicans agreed, although there was more support among Biden's fellow Democrats - 81% - than Republicans - at 66%."

Reuters / IPSOS speaks for 1,005 Americans in an ONLINE poll. Given that now almost half the American electorate claims "independent" rather one of the two other parties, the prose from Reuters is interesting.

It is also interesting that your "proof" is taken from the mainstream press.

You've cleverly slipped beyond the facts with cited sources that 1) NATO expanded from 12 to 30 nations, 2) NATO bombed Serbia for almost three months, 3) NATO has had troops stationed in a non-NATO nation for more than twenty years, 4) the US has invaded quite a number of nations, though you say no nation should invade another, 5) families of American politicians were deep in the corruption of the Ukraine, and 6) cited a mainstream media "push poll" of about a thousand people to speak for all of America.

What did you miss? A fair point, from the Reuters poll:

"The Reuters/Ipsos poll showed that a majority of Americans - 58% - said they were afraid that the country is heading toward nuclear war with Russia. And 65% are concerned that the war may escalate if Ukraine is provided longer range weapons that could hit Russia itself."

Almost all polls are 'mainstream'. Feel free to link to any contrary poll.

As to NATO, once again, you refuse to address whether nuclear Russia ever credibly feared invasion of NATO.

Exactly what DO you trust?

Whether you’re doing it intentionally or not, you come across as a walking example of a prole infested with doublethink, straight outa 1984.

Where black is white all the time Big Brother says so, but the second the opposition to Big Brother starts saying black is white as well, they must be lying. But Big Brother is right.

If some RT article talked about this, or the Kremlin news outlets did, you’d gulp their words down without a single ounce of scepticism. But if anybody else points you at the exact same information, you decide they can’t be trusted.

It’s quite simple. Take that great big Russian propaganda dildo out of your ass, and go straight to the sources of news. The source for Prigozhin’s thought processes are on his own Telegram feed. The source for Kadyrov’s opinions are from his own mouth, on Russian television. The source for Putin’s “unity” come from his own essays that are posted on the Kremlin side.

If you rely only on second hand, massively biased, ideologically filtered news stories instead of scrutinising the personally expressed thoughts of the actors inside Russia, then you are not just susceptible to propaganda, you are enthusiastically signing up to be a propaganda victim.

Once again, I don't speak for nor can I mind read the Russian administration, the Ukrainian administration nor the Biden administration. I don't speak for nor can I mind read the European Commission nor the NATO hierarchy of recent Climate Change fame. I also don't speak for push polls and samples of 1,005 people.

You have refused to address -- your phraseology -- the various points I raised . You seem as adept at slipping away from specifics as are the current House Speaker and White House spokewoman.

Your liberal, pro-Biden Canadian commentary holds zero weight in America.

Keep your nose out of American politics. Christopher Steel has done enough damage to US.

it’s a NATO-supported effort, and Canada is part of NATO

Ireland isn’t ... maybe YOU should stay away from these threads

Ukraine isn't part of NATO and you aren't an American citizen. Go away and fix your own government.

I agree, but that’s not exactly what Prigozhin and Kadyrov are after.

They want what China has - but Prigozhin in particular thinks the way Russia should’ve got it is by holding the USSR together and then exporting stuff Russia doesn’t even make, to the rest of the world.

The problem with abolishing the cold war mentality is, it doesn’t exactly address what to do with a country that on one hand has Prigozhin and his bedfellows lusting after a new October Revolution to restore state ownership with bells on, and the Duginists on the other hand who are pursuing revanchist ethnofascism.

It’s a toxic combination where the only thing both sides really have in common is, they both want to reconquer the Warsaw Pact region - one wants to get there militarily and is happy to use nukes if that’s what it takes, the other wants to do it by promoting “Russkyi Mir” (but has a massive butt-hurt because much of eastern Europe looked at “Russkyi Mir” and said NO THANKS, you literally have nothing to offer except books we read decades ago, music from decades ago, oil and gas which we can get from elsewhere...)

Both sides feel a hugely hyperinflated sense of victimhood, and annoyingly both sides do have a point. The West has belittled Russia. Russia HAS been hollowed out by its own kleptocracy.

Pounding Ukraine into dust over it while trying to blackmail Europe, though, is completely the wrong response. If Russia had decided to get its own house in order and THEN tried to export its values to its neighbors through the exercise of soft power, it might have had far more luck.

This has nothing to do with American politics. It is about European and Asian geopolitics.

More doublethink from you. America should be less involved in the affairs of nations on the other side of the globe, but as soon as there’s a regional kick-off and it involves Russia, somehow American’s gotta make it all about America.

This is correct since the beginning in 1949, and yours an interesting assertion. Here's another Canadian-supported and NATO-supported effort -- Climate Change.

So are you 'on board' with your government and the hierarchy of NATO consistently, or only when it suits an argument? I am genuinely curious, since so many are tossing about "appeals to authority" alongside ad hominem in this thread.

This has nothing to do with American politics.

American politics move geopolitics. American politics can either promote or stop a war. Real Americans aren't interested in your very obvious globalist political agenda.

Well the EU left Russia under the pitbull and strong-arming by Victoria Nuland under the O’Biden admin. instructions. But thn that’s the whole point the US is going after - to sever all ties between Russia and the EU. And the same for China and the EU.

Both countries stand in the way of the US/Globalists agendas for World Dominance.

You're being disingenuous. Neither of us can speak for, or mind read leadership of different countries, BUT we can say whether a threat is credible, ie NATO invasion of nuclear Russia.

Why?

There’s nothing to indicate the Russians are dealing in good faith. They invaded Ukraine twice in 8 years. Where’s the good faith?
