At the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Journal found that 'more than 200 senior officials… or nearly one in three, reported that they or their family members held investments in companies that were lobbying the agency.
Some Americans still believe the federal government is working in the public’s best interest. If anything can disabuse these naive holdouts of this notion, it will be the bombshell Wall Street Journal investigation that just dropped—revealing runaway corruption among the federal bureaucracy.
The Journal reviewed more than 31,000 financial disclosure forms and analyzed more than 850,000 financial assets and 315,000 trades to shed light on any conflicts of interest among more than 12,000 senior career bureaucrats and political appointees. Its investigation found that “thousands of officials across the U.S. government’s executive branch disclosed owning or trading stocks that stood to rise or fall with decisions their agencies made.”
“Across 50 federal agencies ranging from the Commerce Department to the Treasury Department, more than 2,600 officials reported stock investments in companies while those companies were lobbying their agencies for favorable policies, during both Republican and Democratic administrations,” the Journal reports. “When the financial holdings caused a conflict, the agencies sometimes simply waived the rules.”
The federal employees weren’t even subtle about it. Per the Journal, “More than five dozen officials at five agencies reported trading stocks of companies shortly before their departments announced enforcement actions against those companies, such as charges or settlements.”
That’s sus.
To get an understanding of how shady this behavior is, consider examples from a few specific agencies. At the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), for example, the Journal found that “more than 200 senior officials… or nearly one in three, reported that they or their family members held investments in companies that were lobbying the agency.”

What a bombshell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /s
We need someone to take a serious look at these alphabet agencies and decide whether we need them or not. The administrative end of the executive branch is way out of control. Also we need term limits. These politicians have been in their position so long they are too far removed from who they are representing. Term limits will create automatic house cleaning of congress.
I did not read the article. Does it “name names?”
Knowing that a company has submitted a bid and buying options is not criminal. That information is usually public.
Knowing some company is about to get fined is not public. That is corruption.
I am always puzzled by people who promote term limits for our elected officials.
Yes, there may be many corrupt ones - but they are the only branch of government over-which you still have some control. You can vote against them.
Term limits only strengthens the permanent bureaucracy over every other part of government.
where are TERM LIMITS, stock-trading limits, strict financial disclosure, etc. etc... really needed?
On FED.GOV employees above GS-15.
Ask yourself - when did you ever get to vote for permanent government ghouls like Fauci, Comey or Welensky?
The EPA bomb explode in 1970. WSJ needs to get a current events section.
Try to cut a dollar from their budgets. They and the press will scream we’re all gonna die.
Babylon Bee? Show of hands! Hello? Bueller?
Terraria Corruption.
Ya think? 😂
FBI will get right on it
Just shows you that the main stream media is deaf, dumb and blind. And about 30 years late.
Corruption is endemic in America. What isn’t corrupted?
Democrats push for and achieve bigger government. The bigger the government the bigger the corruption.
Hard to believe some people can be so damn stupid.
Shocking! 🙄
The only permissable investments for federal employees should be the Federal Thrift Savings Program. If it’s good enough for the rank and file, it’s good enough for the rest. BTW, Congressal investment should be limited to Thrift Savings Plan as well.
Government employees are takers from makers.
The counties surrounding Washington, DC rank at the top of richest counties in the country. The majority of people in those countries work for the federal government, government contractors or in some supporting role to government. While I never fault people for their success, these people are not successful in anything other than fleecing taxpayers that work in the private sector and build something for a living.
The DMV needs to become Appalachia for America to free again.
