The gallery statement contradicts the Israeli National News headline:
"Two anti-oil activists deface priceless Van Gogh "Sunflowers" painting at London's National Gallery with tomato soup."
"According to the gallery, the painting was under glass and not damaged."

They meant to deface it, but it was under glass. Even if it wasn’t, Tomato Soup is water-based, so cannot penetrate an oil painting.
