Also reading speed trumps listening. This is a problem I have also with podcasts and long-form interviews, when content is slim or diluted. We read lots of research direct from the published papers, rather than take the word of “news” reports ABOUT the published papers. But we do listen to long form lectures, when the content is concise and sourced.

I agree 100%. But long-form shows such as Joe Rogan, Matt Walsh, etc, are good for people who don't like to read. I sometimes listen to Jordan Peterson, not because he presents material new to me, although he occasionally does, but so I can improve my verbal expression skills. I learn by example.

>>The UK is working to replace solar farms with food farms because of the coming food and energy crisis.<<

Are solar panels not edible?

Will revisit "The Road to Serfdom" this afternoon.

The problem with AI/Machine Learning is that there is a backdoor where humans can inject their greed or politics (read: bias). If/when that occurs, we are back to the same problem central planning poses right now (i.e., bias prevents it from competing with the winnowing process of free market competition that gets rid of underperformance and promotes excellence). Once there is a "bias" flaw in the system, the system starts to promote incompetent operating units that produce and foster incompetent offspring.

When that occurs, the only systems that work are those that pop-up in underground economies.

The average temperature for buildings’ heating across the EU at present is above 22°C. Adjusting the thermostat for buildings heating would deliver immediate annual energy savings of around 10 bcm for each degree of reduction while also bringing down energy bills.

https://www.iea.org/reports/a-10-point-plan-to-reduce-the-european-unions-reliance-on-russian-natural-gas That's 72 deg. F - gee, I already run at 68 deg. F in the winter, and that's just in rooms or spots in use. We probably average under 65 deg. F. Not in the bathroom, though, although the downstairs bathroom @ my friends' home in Northern IL might be colder!

This notion that masses of Europeans are going to freeze is poppycock - a sure fire way to spot propagandists not worth reading further.

Hot linked now. (Bad pun!)

I see this as mostly workable, with some impracticalities, and still a quite negative economic impact. The worst impracticalities relate to wind and solar, IMO, and some of the nuke plant shutdowns may be hard to interrupt and reverse...
