PETER HITCHENS: Liz Truss bought her opinions on eBay...the Tories have now run out of gimmicks
DailyMail.com ^ | 10/15/2022 | Peter Hitchens

The Tory Party is like a knight dying in his armour. Looked at casually from a distance, it sill appears formidable and important. Seen close to, it is obviously done for, gasping for breath inside its visor, kept upright in the saddle only by the steel plates which are supposed to protect it.

Nothing but habit, and a reputation gained long ago, keep it in being. If it were not for the money given to it by donors who are in most cases not actually political, its organization would collapse...

Yes, Liz Truss is perhaps the most woefully unconvincing Prime Minister we have ever seen, but is unfair to concentrate on her. Sir Anthony Blair is at least as dim, but is a better actor and had much better handlers. David Cameron was unable to cover up the fact he believed in nothing, but like the great actor George Sanders, he played the part of likeable bounder to perfection. Poor Theresa May should never have risen above...

But you will look in vain for another Margaret Thatcher or Denis Healey, a new Michael Heseltine or even a new Neal Kinnock, because all of the parties have been captured by the deadly dogmas of equality and diversity. All live in fear of the BBC, which-like the medieval church-decides which ideas are acceptable and which are heretical, and will seek to destroy anyone who steps outside its chosen limits.

You cannot now discuss whether the sexual revolution was a good thing. Parents must surrender their children to the powers and ideas of the state. You cannot oppose multiculturalism or mass immigration...

This explosion was designed to anger Russia and is a major raising of the stakes in the Ukraine war...What I fear is the war, bit by bit spreading beyond Ukraine...

The BBC license fee is supposedly going away in a few years, which means it’s power will diminish.

Full court press Trumping of her.

Next they’ll present a dossier.

Slight flaw in Hitchen’s summary - promotion of the homosexual agenda in the west is right out of the communist playbook and it was always their intention to promote the erosion of good family values in the west as a reason to jump full tilt into statism.

Are we serious supposed to believe that education in Russia isn’t statist?!

It is what it is very regrettable but it’s where we’ve come to.

The once mighty British Empire is turning to ashes before our very eyes.

I’ve read a lot of Hitchens in the last seven years and his message includes the notion that Marxists like he used to be in his youth are in the government from elected to bureaucrats to judges.

He sees their social liberalism in the context of their youthful involvement in leftist organizations at the British universities.

He has said that in all parties including the Conservatives leftists have wormed their way in.

For once the atheist is correct. The Tories have no clue at the moment. They need massive government spending cuts like every nation in the West. Big government does not work. Socialism doesn’t work. Starve both of them.

Thanks. Hitchens is a delight to read even when discussing depressing subjects. The analogy of the old man turned Olympic athlete is spot on.

For once the atheist is correct.

Peter Hitchens is an Anglican. You’re thinking of his deceased brother, Christopher.

David Cameron was unable to cover up the fact he believed in nothing, but like the great actor George Sanders, he played the part of likeable bounder to perfection.

That is one great line. It may be literally true, but whether it is or isn't, it's so brilliant it's hard to ignore.

But you will look in vain for another Margaret Thatcher or Denis Healey, a new Michael Heseltine or even a new Neal Kinnock, because all of the parties have been captured by the deadly dogmas of equality and diversity.

We got the new/old Neal Kinnock over here in the states and he's not doing a very good job.
