As an employer, you can appreciate the generation that had plenty of what we used to call "functioning alcoholics". This was before LBJ created the welfare state. Yes, people used to get drunk. Yes it was addictive. Yes they spent too much of their family's money on it, etc.

But they still showed up for work and did their jobs because if they didn't they'd have no income and would starve. Having no safety net has a tendency to keep real world boundaries in full view. The few who did lose their jobs because of alcoholism was a reminder to those bordering that to no go that far.

It's amazing to me that the Democrat cult who wants to think we all got here through natural selection, is the same cult who is last to realize that when government freebies change the environment, people's behaviors change too.

My first thought. The only thing that changed is heavy metal and insecticide content from bad grows and more people are honest about use. If everyone that used admitted it many alcoholics would be shocked.

Legalizing medical and recreational pot dispensaries means that pot users don’t have to find the corner dealer anymore, and aren’t exposed to crack, meth, or fentanyl.

So what has CA shown us. There is so much regulation and taxes it is still easier to go down to the corner dealer.

Not working in practice.

Agreed.

DemonRats are far more dangerous than pot heads, although there is a good bit of overlap.

I am not arguing for marijuana. I am against it. I will guarantee you I have sold more dope than you will ever see. It is Satanic. It is a gateway NOT so much into the world of heroin and whatnot, but into a spiritual world of evil, filled with superintelligent hypersomatic beings who are filled with lies and hatred for you. I hate drugs, including pot. If I could push a button and magically end all drug abuse, including recreational pot, I WOULD PUSH THAT BUTTON. So no more stupid accusations that I just wanna smoke my joints. OK?

All that is absolutely and completely irrelevant as to whether the US government has the constitutional authority to enact laws against it. You people blabbering on about “gateway drugs” never mention the REAL gateway here, which is the gateway wide open for THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SEIZE POWER NOT GRANTED IT IN THE CONSTITUTION. Of course, it does that to “help” us... which is the same damned argument the leftists use. You cannot be trusted with freedom, because you might hurt yourself. I defy you to find any authority of the federal government to outlaw drugs. There is no authority in the Constitution which provides for the federal government to prohibit, fine, obstruct, or otherwise hinder someone who wishes to ingest whatever idiotic harmful substance they wish to.

This is the most awful thing about the so called “drug wars.” The people who insist on prosecuting it are the same crowd which will bawl out about how we need to “return to the constitution” and how the rule of law has become perverted, and will insist in the same ignorant breath that the bad effects of pot (and there certainly are bad effects) make it ok to just ignore the Constitution, WHICH GRANTS NO SUCH AUTHORITY TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

Do yourself a favor. Try and find the federal authority in the constitution for outlawing pot... or meth..., or cocaine... or even heroin or fentanyl. Show it to me, and I will never again accuse drug warriors of being hostile to the rule of law. Until I can find this... just once...., I could care less about all the blubbering and yammering and empty headed nonsense about the awful price paid ( and I have friends who are dead from ODs, some who died in prison, and others who completely ruined their lives... I KNOW ABOUT THE PRICE). That is not the issue. Never has been.

Until then, I could care less about all the self congratulatory moral grandstanding about how bad dope is, so it justifies the response of tyranny in the name of protecting us.

You guys need to have the courage to say it out loud “I BELIEVE IN TYRANNY AND THE LAWLESS EXERCISE OF POWER IF IT IS FOR GOOD.”

Till then don’t give me crap about what you know about drugs. I lived in that world for years and I know it better than you. I also happen to know the Constitution (IMAGINE THAT!) and believe in the rule of law. You should try it some time.

Missouri is a conservative state, but I expect the legalization proposition to pass next month. Everyone seems to think that by taxing and regulating sales somehow the state will be able to control it, but the experience I’ve read of in California makes me think that the ‘untaxed’ cartel stuff will outsell the ‘legal’ taxed stuff. And who knows what might have been added to ‘enhance’ the high.

And has been pointed out, one can enjoy alcohol without getting drunk; the whole point of weed is to get high.

That said, I don’t know if weed is the biggest problem/issue facing young adults right now. There seems to be so much going haywire right now.

I knew a cop that was drunk all the time. He was busted down in rank for showing up a little drunker than usual, but still served to retirement.

That used to be true. But with the increased potency of marijuana and THC laced snacks, we are seeing that it causes schizophrenia and psychosis.

Just look at what the brownies did to Reverend Jim...

Cannabis actually has a far greater flavor and effect range versus alcohol/tobacco and millions of people appreciate the flavor and aesthetics in addition to the effects.

There are strains many people consume which cause ZERO inebriation nomatter how much is used. People buy cigarette packs of it to smoke just like you would tobacco when they don’t wish to be buzzed. In many jurisdictions there are stores that are allowed to ONLY sell this type of cannabis so clearly there is demand for cannabis well beyond inebriation.

Everything from chocolate to mango to even diesel fuel can be expressed via natural cannabis terpenes through natural breeding techniques. Cannabis has so many flavor possibilities, there is no need to add anything to make a flavored smoke like is done with flavored tobacco. Many of the terpenes have also been identified to have medical effects we are only beginning to study since it was outlawed so long.

Cannabis can also be grown to express every color of the rainbow and many people grow to admire and share photos of the flowers. Shimmering like diamonds for several months, the flowers can add some long-lasting sparkle and color to most any garden.

There are even monthly magazines that have been published for decades where you can see centerfolds of the most beautiful flowers like you would see women.

Now I hear that gummies is the big thing, probably better for you without the inhaled smoke.

And they take care of the munchies. Well, temporarily until they kick in which leads to more gummies and the cycle begins anew. Sure was simpler with bongs, Doritos, and late night runs to Jack-in-the-Box for a Breakfast Jack and super taco that we enjoyed in the bank parking lot across the street.

The fact that these referenda are even PROPOSED for voters to approve is mind blowing. I know the process usually originates with legislatures, but some states allow citizens to initiate the process. The final vote on the proposition is just an end result, not a cause.

You're right, though. The rationalization that it can "generate revenue," even much needed revenue, is misguided at best. There are other "costs" to legalizing weed, many which are not tangible. Drug legalization actually attracts a lot of underworld influence as they try to horn in on the business generated.

In my experience, Libertarians are all for legalizing choices but against having consequences.

Locally the push to legalize pot is tied to the same people demand UBI, free housing, and free food for all.

Just look at Colorado. It turned into a leftist stronghold after the voters legalized marajuana in 2012, at least I remember it being that year.

Now not doing drugs is “rebellion”.

There was a funny satire article by The Babylon Bee recently posing a heterosexual, faithfully married man as a bizarre outlier. The guy had to actually DEFEND and explain his "behavior." Even his children were both his and his wife's.

I'm afraid we're practically at that point.
