Austin calls on lawmakers to pass new spending bill for Pentagon

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is urging congressional lawmakers to pass a new spending bill for the Pentagon, saying a “failure to do so will result in significant harm” to the U.S. and national security.

Congress has until Dec. 16 to pass a new funding bill and avoid a federal government shutdown.

There has been talk of Congress passing a longer “continuing resolution” or temporary funding measure to give negotiators more time to agree to a new omnibus spending bill that would cover the Pentagon and other government agencies. A “CR” would maintain funding at existing levels, while an omnibus would more likely include stepped-up funding for the Pentagon.

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) obtained by Politico, Austin said operating under a temporary funding resolution “moves our budget backward, not forward,” and will reduce the Pentagon’s topline by $3 billion.

No lame duck funding. Make them wait for the next congress. The military will not and has never been ‘shut down’ for lack of budget.

Austin’s ability to direct defense is akin to Biden’s ability to speak a complete sentence. I can only imagine what our soldiers think when that clown pretends to have ideas.

Maybe they should’ve thought of that before giving Ukraine a zillion dollars (that we don’t have).

There’s no money left.

Biden spent it all on Covid giveaways and on paying people not to work, and has another billion more ready to be spent on student loans, and hundreds of billions more ready to spend on hiring 87,000 IRS agents. Take the IRS agents’ money for spending on defense, and make sure the students loan money also goes to defense.

General "Ray" Theon, having spent more than eighty percent of a trillion dollars, is hungry for MORE. MORE! MORE!

General "Die" Namics and General Atomicks agreed. The firm of Lockheed and Martin say enough is never enough. Pfizer and Moderna find their way onto the top ten list, so there's that, buckoo.

More money for Austin's Raytheon buddies (and others in the same business).

Having a former director of Raytheon in charge of "defense" is a conflict of interest.

Exactly!

...and tell Austin that any hardware and ammunition sent to Ukraine will NOT be replaced.
