More than 100 US lawmakers pledge support for affordable housing legislation

A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has pledged support for an affordable housing bill that could lead to the development of 500,000 starter homes in struggling communities over the next decade.

The Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, introduced in both the House and Senate, would offer a tax incentive to developers to minimize their risk when building or rehabilitating existing housing.

In some areas of the U.S., the cost of rehabilitating or building a home could exceed the eventual sale price. This bill would fill the “value gap,” up to 35 percent of eligible development costs for new homes.

The bill currently has the support of 124 U.S. lawmakers across 37 states, and lawmakers have stressed the urgency to pass the bill before the end the current legislative session.

“It is critical that we get the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act over the finish line,” Sen. Rob Portman (Ohio), the lead Republican sponsor of the bill, said in a statement.

He's been going scorched earth on his way out, hasn't he?

Be interesting to check his money flows, I think.

Making it more affordable for some means making it less affordable for others.

90% of any moneys allocated will go to FoPs (Friends of Portman) for “research studies” and “management”.

So Congress said we couldn’t afford $5 billion for the wall, but they’re willing to spend 10 times that to build affordable housing for the vermin invading our country, which is a problem they created in the first place! My God, they’re either extraordinarily stupid or they’re getting kickbacks from someone. Some curious reporter should look into that…because these politicians seem shady AF.

if starter homes were profitable for builders and lenders, they would be building them. as it is, a single wide is a good starter home.. see if buyers can take care of that.

If you can't take care of a little, why would someone put you in charge of alot?

And where in the Constitution is this authorized? If this needs to be done, let the states do it.

This kind of crap is why we really don’t have a truly capitalist system.

how about just take less from people in the first place and give everyone universal incentives

versus taking confiscated monies from certain people/groups and redistributing them to certain peoples/groups.

How about less govt instead of confiscating/referee govt?

How about capitalism vs fascism/cronyism/socialism?

Is this the bill that demolishes the suburbs?

Where lots of multi-unit housing goes in and the towns get kickbacks?
