McCarthy Is Not the Right Leader for the Moment
amgreatness.com ^ | 12/11/22 | Matt Gaetz

The administration is aiding and abetting an invasion of the Southern border. Our rights are being stripped away. We are at war and the enemy is within.

In response to this existential threat, we’re told that we need to entrust a congressman previously recognized as the “tech industry’s best friend” as our leader.

That’s boneheaded. Kevin McCarthy is not the right leader for the moment. Fortunately, enough Republicans recognize that and mean to stop him from being the next Speaker of the House. Five House Republicans, including myself, have announced that we will not vote for McCarthy during the January 3 speaker election. Many have privately also informed McCarthy of their plans to vote for someone else.

McCarthy’s allies are fretting and are pushing out a false narrative that opposition to the Paul Ryan endorsed McCarthy will embolden Democrats to elect a squish Republican as Speaker. It turns out that spin is right, just not the way the McCarthy camp sold it.

Semafor is reporting that “Leader-designate Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. waved off the suggestion Democrats would help elect an alternative for speaker, while Whip Jim Clyburn, D-S.C. all but volunteered Democrats’ support to help get McCarthy over the threshold of votes needed for speaker.”

This is the uniparty in action and should let you know that McCarthy is not a threat to the system destroying America. How could he be? His closest adviser has represented Pfizer, Amazon, and a firm dedicated to giving out a path to American citizenship to wealthy Chinese. His roommate counts Google among his clients.

This is the moment for a fight and McCarthy’s instinct is flight. In the days after January 6, McCarthy asked in a call with Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) whether Twitter can take away conservative Congressman Barry Moore’s (R-Ala.) Twitter account

Pelosi will never allow this to happen. She is a skilled politician. McCarthy is an amateur. So he needs to go down so someone who's more able can take his place.

McCarthy isn't the worse guy to be the Speaker. But he's not a fighter.

Young RINOs.

We were lucky to get Newt Gingrich for a while. But it will end up being another RINO in the mold of Hasstert, Boehner and Ryan. Conservatives are not welcome in Communist DC.

The District of Corruption.

This is the trashbag who was plotting with LIZ CHENEY on how to fk over Trump.

MFer needs to be *dragged*, not elected speaker.

Agree - a “wartime” consigliere is preferred.

It's not business as usual. So Gaetz is correct in "testing" McCarthy. If he can't make it through this vote, he never had it anyway.

Didn’t someone recently state that Trump endorsed McCarthy?

Not that I care, but on the watch for hypocrisy.

Somebody voted for Mr. Gaetz and put him in a position to do something. I do hope he will.

“Didn’t someone recently state that Trump endorsed McCarthy?”

Yes he did. But frankly I don’t care. We need somebody else. We can’t just keep putting THE SAME people in power over and over. But of course, that’s just what the Ruling Oligarchy wants, so the gravy train continues unabated.

The reason there aren't significantly more conservatives in Congress is that not enough people vote for them in primaries and general elections. Pretty much as simple as that.

A conservative ran against McCarthy and got 31 votes to McCarthy's 188. Not sure else folks expect to happen.

The title is correct. The Freedom Caucus holds some power and has some answers. Will they prevail in the battle for freedom?

Fine, if Gaetz doesn’t want McCarthy, then Gaetz needs to tell us all about the alternative who has the votes to be Speaker. Otherwise, all Gaetz is doing is laying the groundwork for a House Speaker beholden to Democrat votes for his speakership.

I fear that with McCarthy we’ll see the “work with our friends across the aisle” mantra for the next two years.

Just one more time that the Democrats will be setting the agenda . . .

Bottom line is that McCarthy needs to make some significant promises if he wants support. That includes a power sharing arrangement with Conservatives and if he blocks that then he’s out.

Fraud may have swung a few races, but it isn't enough to explain the 188-31 vote between McCarthy and Biggs.

If you think it does, then the fraud is so massive that I don't understand why you'd bother with political or election discussions at all because they're all moot anyway.

I am sorry Matt, but without the votes the opposition to McCarthy will either outright fail or create a condtion that can lead to a Dim speaker. How in any way can that be called a “succcess”.
