Juan Williams: Third party chatter opens door for Trump
The Hill ^ | 12/19/2022 | Juan Williams

Donald Trump — meet Kyrsten Sinema.

Sen. Sinema (I-Ariz.) recently departed the Democratic Party to become an independent.

If Trump follows her lead and runs for president as an independent he instantly launches the most consequential third-party candidacy in American history.

Think about it.

Polls now show GOP voters increasingly rejecting the disgraced ex-president as the party’s 2024 nominee.

If Republicans turn on him, is there any doubt the notoriously thin-skinned Trump will soon start threatening a run as an independent to spite his former party?

A third-party platform allows him to stay in the media spotlight and continue to raise money off his shrinking base of gullible supporters.

It is all about him. Always has been. Always will be.

Teddy gave us Woodrow Wilson in 1912, who only won 41.8% of the popular vote.

I must be pregnant, I missed a period.

"if Trump loses the primary I can see him running third party. A lot of people would cheer him on if he did that."

AND a lot of bone-headed morons would stay 'loyal' to the useless republican party who are nothing but democrat-lite

He looks like a cadaver puppet when he sits-in on the Fox “The Five” show. Pitiful lowlife.

Trump’s not the right person to lead a 3rd party revolt against the Uniparty. Not at his age, or current level of support.

The only person out there right now worthy of even being considered for doing it would be Musk. Not that I’m endorsing that idea at all, as he doesn’t even meet the native born requirements, but it would have to be someone who has some supporters on both the right and left, and lower overall negatives.

All Trump would do is further damage his legacy even more. And leave us with an even bigger mess.

Ego!

Agree with your 3rd party analysis.

Our “executive” system is not structured in a manner that can support multiple parties for any length of time. We are not a parliamentary system of government. Also, parliamentary systems are no panacea look at the mess that the UK, Canada, NZ & others are currently in!

“It is all about him. Always has been.”
The President Trump, who worked 14-16 hour days for 4 years, and didn’t take a salary?
The President Trump who campaigned on America First, Make America Great Again, bring industry back to America?
The President Trump, who backed our military, law enforcement, border security, and our Constitution?
I beg your pardon, but WTF are you smoking?
We’ve never had a more patriotic man in office, at any level, I think he’s worthy of a little self promotion, at times.

Many of Trump's core talking points are in line with the Constitution Party.

* Immigration restrictions.

* Economic protectionism.

* No foreign wars or foreign aid.

It's possible the CP would have him.

California's American Independent Party (a former CP affiliate) endorsed Trump in 2016 and 2020. They still have Trump/Pence on their website (which they rarely update).

Trump has a Kanye problem that he should address.

Lots of Conservative Jews won’t even think about pulling the lever for him next time.

And, oh yeah - turn the DOJ loose on Jared. We’ve all had enough, and I bet you have, too.

I'm afraid Ivanka has Trump wrapped around her little finger. Trump won't do anything to upset Daddy's Little Princess.

What about the Ross Perot candidacy in ‘92? Arguably paved the way for Clinton to win two terms.

“Perot candidacy in ‘92”

While Perot may have contributed to splitting votes in 92, Clinton outworked and out campaigned 41 by a lot. In spite of his amoral nature (or because of it) he was a very good politician. Hence the moniker “slick Willy”.

That’s not to say Clinton was a good president but by 2022 standards he’s pretty much middle of the road (insert roadkill joke here).
