For federal employees, the most significant part of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending package that Congress unveiled this week may not be contained in the text of the legislation itself, but rather found in what’s not said.
The 4,155-page bill, which House and Senate lawmakers released in the early morning hours of Dec. 20, doesn’t make any reference to the 4.6% across-the-board federal pay raise, in effect silently endorsing the Biden administration’s proposal for 2023. The bill additionally supports a 4.6% pay raise for military members in 2023.

way past time to dismantle DC and part it out-up to a point-among the states
every federal job should be shopped out to those who are unemployed... if they can do it for less, let them.
No, the vast majority of federal jobs should be permanently eliminated. We need a move employment to the private sector where things are actually made. Government doesn’t make a damn thing other that an economic mess while abusing our freedoms.
That’s much more inflationary than the price of groceries.
When you rob Peter to pay Paul, you always have the support of Paul.
I had the honor and privilege to work for the DoD alongside many military veterans and retired that served this country proudly and preserved our freedoms at great cost and sacrifice to themselves and their families.
Many of which left parts of their bodies (and minds for that matter) in far away lands to make sure people like you and I could sleep peacefully every night.
Does the fed gov have its sluggo employees? You betcha.
It would be a good idea to keep in mind that contrary to popular belief there are many that actually try to do the right thing and give the taxpayers their money’s worth every day.......at least that’s what I and many of those REAL American heroes that I mentioned did anyway.
Also, the system allows what goes on in federal service......fix the system and a lot of it corrects itself.

Typical. DC big government versus the rest of us.
Since we have to have federal employees anyway (could be reduced if/when gov’t is reduced), we should hire excellent ones—then they won’t be the problem or deserve to be unemployed. Only low performing federal employees should be unemployed.
4.6% raise plus the Cost of Living increase????
Government employees are already the highest paid employees in the US.
A lot of federal employment really IS with the private sector these days. Lots of contracting, compared to decades ago. I’m a federal employee and when I started 27 years ago I answered mail and phones. Now that’s contracted out to the private sector.
wouldn’t it be something IF we elected a fiscally sound, financial wizard conservative who did some actual housecleaning in order to get the budget under control?
The howling and teeth gnashing would be incredible
OK, so what do you do today?
I can’t understand how retired military (I am) gets the full 8.5 (or whatever it is) and the active duty who are still working gets only 4.5? That is horrible! They should get 8.5 and the retirees get 4.5. American is backwards on everything!!!!
With inflation nearly 10% the drones were given a 5% pay cut.
I worked in DOD also and for those who think every civilian job should be farmed out to contractors I can tell you that some of the worst ripoffs of the government were by defense contractors.
Don’t get me wrong I worked with some great conscientious contractors but when the rubber hit the road most of them would not or could not do anything that was not in their contract. Government civilians generally did whatever needed to be done as part of their “other duties not listed” job agreements. Sometimes they needed some prodding but generally they got the job done.
Yep. Farming out every fed gov job just isn’t feasible and anyone that thinks that is speaking out of ignorance.
Many forget or aren’t aware of the no strike policy in the fed gov.
ATCs can speak to that one. LoL!
I’m assuming took early retirement, working on a 2nd pension or vacationing. F all the gov employees.
