Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Thursday voted for former President Donald Trump as Speaker of the House.
The vote came during the seventh round of voting in the contentious speakership battle, which is currently in its third day:

Gaetz stands as one of the several Republican holdouts refusing to unite behind Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as Speaker of the House, initially forcing a second vote earlier this week — an occurrence the country has not seen in 100 years. In a Tuesday letter to the Architect of the Capitol, Gaetz inquired as to why McCarthy occupied the Speaker’s office, despite not having that position:
The Speaker of the House Office in the Capitol is currently being occupied by Kevin McCarthy.
Kevin McCarthy is not the Speaker of the House. He lost 3 consecutive votes today.

If the House is suspended for two years it might be one of the best things to ever happen, and might lift the Republic off life support and get it breathing on its own again.

As opposed to doing what? Passing bills that will die in the Senate? Holding hearings to make referrals that the DOJ won’t act on? Or maybe impeaching someone who will never be removed from office?
Isn’t it time we had a House Speaker other than Klaus Schwab who I think is the real winner if either McCarthy or Jeffries is elected.
Steve Bannon made an impassioned plea for this today on his show.
I’m mixed on whether these two are serious, or are instead just laying the groundwork for saying the train has actually left the Trump station more and more in the future.
Bannon said “It’s time for Trump to pack up the golf clubs and actually get to work” as part of the request, which does have a bit of a backhand to it.
I can’t see Trump wanting the job.
Not saying I know Trump that well, but my read on him is that while he works tirelessly and is a hyooge do-er personality, he is a mover and an expediter and a delegator and a negotiator. In other words, he hits things, makes things happens, shakes them up, and moves on. I just don’t see him wanting to man the gavel for long periods of time.

Yes, Trump is a ‘big picture’ guy. He’d hate being bogged-down with all the detail of Speaker - and he’d be lousy at it.
Trump would probably be dozing off his first day at the Speaker’s podium listening to all these self-important windbags drone on and one.
