The First Battle of the Next War: Wargaming a Chinese Invasion of Taiwan
Center for Strategic and International Studies ^ | 1/9/23 | Mark Cancian

Posted on 01/10/2023 6:46:31 AM PST by Sam's Army

CSIS developed a wargame for a Chinese amphibious invasion of Taiwan and ran it 24 times. In most scenarios, the United States/Taiwan/Japan defeated a conventional amphibious invasion by China and maintained an autonomous Taiwan. However, this defense came at high cost. The United States and its allies lost dozens of ships, hundreds of aircraft, and tens of thousands of servicemembers. Taiwan saw its economy devastated. Further, the high losses damaged the U.S. global position for many years. China also lost heavily, and failure to occupy Taiwan might destabilize Chinese Communist Party rule. Victory is therefore not enough. The United States needs to strengthen deterrence immediately.

I was going to say ‘In before the Chinese trolls’ but I see I’m too late.

Also, China should focus on taking back Siberia from a weakened Russia. There’s no political downside with the West over that.

Is Siberia valuable for the natural resources?

Our country cannot win any wars anymore unless we change our policies drastically. Only one since 1945 we won was Grenada?

China hasn’t fought a major war since Korea. They got their asses handed to them by Vietnam in a border clash in the interim.

Moving thousands of troops in an amphibious manner is something no major power, except the US, has been able to do in the past 100 years. Its not for the weak of heart. It’s not easy. And China doesn’t have the knowledge, hardware, or logistics to do it.

Any clash between major powers would be bloody. But this “fear” of China invading Taiwan is gaslighting at its best. China isn’t going to do it. They cannot do it—at least not for years.

We should, of course, deter their ambitions.

we won Iraq and Ashcanistan but didn’t want them anymore and gave them back. With full deposit returned to enemies.

Siberia is an unbelievable resource for mining, lumber, and food potential. Russia is sitting on the potential “warehouse” of the world. They are too corrupt to make it profitable.

China will chew them up if Russia becomes too weak—or does something stupid in the West.

They got their asses handed to them by Vietnam in a border clash in the interim.

They're also involved in an ongoing border skirmish with India.

Siberia is a treasure house. Coal, oil, uranium, rare earth metals, lumber, and plenty of room for millions of Chinese.

We haven’t lost a war. Our problem is we try to turn everyone into America. We lose the peace.

Vietnam has 100 million people still over 65% rural. One of the most well defended countries out there.

if I’m not mistaken they are taking over Africa and parts of South America using money-bombs and predatory infrastructure contracts. Also had a big chunk of Alpine, northern Italy until Oops, sent infected workers there for shoe and clothing factories. EU never (ever) will be repaid for the damage(s).

Keep in mind that the Russians have been encouraging tourism to Yakutsk and other Siberian cities.

And the Chinese have been encouraging illegal immigration all across Siberia.

The easy way is just to export another few million Beijingers, and let them start over.
