ChrisO_Wiki (Translator): "Yevgeny Prigozhin's apparently premature announcement of Soledar's capture has reportedly led to a desperate push by Wagner to make it a reality. Wagner is fighting without regard for casualties, not just to gain Soledar, but for Prigozhin's reputation.
"The Russian VChK-OGPU Telegram channel reports that a source (likely within Wagner) says of the situation at Soledar:
"2/It's a nightmare there now: the rush to announce a full takeover has led to the fact that one has to operate on the edge of what is possible.
3/ "The Wagnerites are literally being pushed from behind, everyone is being driven there – if Prigozhin personally has already announced a complete capture, then the price of the matter will no longer play a role. Losses for such a small section of the front are wild.
4/ "If something does not work out with Soledar now (the probability is minimal, but theoretically it's there), the Ministry of Defence will use it against Prigozhin and the 'Musicians' personally - the supply of shells will not only not be improved, but reduced altogether...
5/ "I wouldn't be surprised if those commanders who reported to Prigozhin yesterday that everything had already been taken and there were only a couple of hours [of fighting] left, these commanders might well have been reassigned to the assault troops.
6/ "Now the Wagnerites have to stretch out heavily and cross the river, at the same time the MLRS and artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shot everything there – they hit like in a shooting gallery, and there are plenty of snipers there as well.
7/ "Drones are constantly circling above, watching and throwing VOG grenades. There is nowhere to take cover – everything is in open space.

8/ "And the weather is such that if you are wounded in these conditions, you have almost no chance of survival – even if you stop the blood loss, you will freeze. There is no way to evacuate from there. Everyone is dead [if they get hit]." /end

Lots of gold down there.... right?
In Soledar? I believe it has a valuable salt mine.
It has more than a 120 miles of hidey holes for humanity’s scum for all sorts of stuff in a mass worth 25c a lb retail. You are not necessarily dumb and could just be malevolent.
Keep up kid.
Malevolent for not being an expert on Soledar? Ok.
The town is built over a salt mine. Who would think that it would fall easily?
My spidey senses tell me there is stuff hidden in the 120 miles more or less of salt mine... can you think of a better storage vault... that are freaking out the power to the point they are throwing Biden to the wolves.
No, for not intensely focusing on problems an fixing them. You are a Sigma male. Look it up. We fix it. It is up to us.
The weather conditions in Soledar currently are in the upper 20s to 30s in terms of temperature (Fahrenheit). Even with the snow, the buildings and salt mines present in the area provide enough cover from the inclement weather that this claim of freezing en masse just does not hold up to scrutiny.

Consider reading the comment about freezing a little more closely. The author is not talking about "everyone" freezing. He is talking about casualties who are hit and immobilized. He is saying: if you get hit to where you cannot evacuate yourself, you are going to die, because of the environment.
It is not an unreasonable claim.
The Russians are idiots.
That’s why I only trust news from The Ukrainian Ministry of Disinformation.
Nope. Salt. The “valuable mineral mines” are salt mines. The only point of taking the tiny hamlet Soledar was that it was an attempt to surround Bakhmat, itself a questionably valuable small city of only 70,000 that at least has a major highway intersection. The pathetic thing is that the Russkies already controlled much of Soledar. But they announced victory while there was heavy combat in the center city. So what did they gain? A small portion of a tiny hamlet?
It happened to both the Soviet (Russian) and German armies in WWII.
The Soviets had more men and more material (thanks to the USA) and were fighting for their existence on their own soil.
They lost about 5 men for each German in WWII, and still won (with the help of the other allies).
When your prime consideration is: produce a victory for propaganda purposes, or face execution... you do not tend to care about how many soldiers you sacrifice.
Get Ukraine all the weapons they need to defeat putin/russia,
including soledar
May it be so!
this has nothing to do with salt or anything economic, this is about claiming a victory any victory no matter how small or how costly
Would be interesting to see the fall out if soladar is not captured and Ukrainians retake all of the city. Reminds me of speech hitler gave saying Stalingrad was captured
Regardless of the outcome Russia has been putting all their eggs in this basket and having difficulty capturing a very small town, well guess it is off to Kiev mulligan should work this time /s

Russian captured the high ground, UA failed to adequately protect its flanks.
Be amazed that the UA (given its incompetent command) is doing as well as it is against now <40,000 convicts, backed by regular Wagner troops, and now airborne troops.
——”Drones are constantly circling above, watching and throwing VOG grenades. There is nowhere to take cover – everything is in open space.-——
There are lots of drone videos of the Russians/mercenaries being watched where they live. When a group of say 4 or 5 gathers, a drone drops a grenade and takes them out
Trenches don’t provide safety, the trenches provide immobile targets
Intercepted calls from Russians calling home indicate that the Russians have never ever seen a Ukranian but are being killed by the drones always present above.
“pro-Russian source”
Even the headline contains made up lies.
