Sorry but SS is truly an entitlement. As is Medicare. We paid into it…the government forced us to pay into it and now we are entitled to the benefits we paid for. Cut them and conservatives will become irrelevant. Nobody will vote for them

I am glad you have such a wonderful solution to the problem. I will pass it on to those who are not gifted with your insights.

Agree. We have far too many FBI types plus other AFGE types. I say get Congress, both houses, off the AFGE retirement system. They are not federal employees. Obama did that. Also cut the number of Federal employees and secure the border.

If they want to cut, cut the perks congresscritters get.

How many serve only a couple of terms and walk away with $multi-millions?

Advocating cuts in SS/Medicare is a losing position. Recall the effective Dem ad of Paul Ryan wanting to push granny-in-a-wheelchair off the cliff?

Retirement benefits for veterans and federal retirees is 7% of the budget.

“..............
Benefits for veterans and federal retirees: In 2022, about 7 percent of the budget provides benefits to veterans and former career employees of the federal government, both civilian and military, totaling $420 billion. About nine-tenths of the benefits available to all veterans are either disability payments or medical care, which is often specialized to deal with the unusual conditions that military service may impose. There are currently more than 19 million veterans of U.S. military service, of whom 2.2 million are retired career military who have earned monthly retiree pensions or survivor benefits. There are also 2.7 million federal civil service retirees.

They are hardly the problem!

I like your idea, but it’s probably too good for Washington DC.

Remember when Dubya tried to privatize just PART of Social Security?

He spent all his political capital on the idea and that and Iraq buried him and gave us Speaker Pelosi in 2006.

There are a slew of politicians and media screaming faces waiting for someone to try again so they can demagogue and politicize the issue to their advantage. Certainly not to help the people. Who in Washington gives a fig about them?

We’re all mostly slaves on someone’s plantation. Vote for me or XYZ!

“The Government should never break a contract they setup with its citizens.”

What contract? I never signed any such contract. And SCOTUS has ruled repeatedly that no such contract exists.

“… Lindsey Graham, Romney, McConnell and others have called for cuts.”
****************************************************************

You do understand that they did that merely to help their DemocRAT buddies in last fall’s midterm elections?

Both are broke because the money paid in was spent on other things.

You do realize that 15.3% of every dollar every working person up to the maximum contribution level is paid in, and has been paid in... for SS.

And 1.45% of every dollar everyone makes including most investment types are paid into medicare?

IF these systems are broke its not because the money wasn’t there, it’s because it was spent on other things.

SS is stretched thin, the Baby Boomers will die soon enough then it will balance out. Too bad the BB’s quit smoking.

What contract? I never signed any such contract. And SCOTUS has ruled repeatedly that no such contract exists.

If you don't think that millions upon millions of Americans don't look at Social Security as a promise, as a contract with their Government, you have your head somewhere where it does not belong.

Sometimes, and this is such a case, perception is more important than legality.

If the GOP pursues cutting Social Security, like others have stated on this thread, they are not fit to lead.
