Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday blasted the International Olympic Committee (IOC) over its stated desire to include Russian athletes in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In spite of Zelensky’s calls to exclude Russia from next year’s Summer Olympics, the IOC on Wednesday said it aimed pursue a pathway for Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete as “neutral athletes” who “in no way represent their state or any other organisation in their country.”
The organization said the passport an athlete holds should not be a reason why they can’t compete, citing a “unifying mission” during wartime. It pointed to the example of Yugoslavian athletes competing at the 1992 Barcelona Games, despite the country being under United Nations sanctions during a civil war.
Zelensky, in a Friday speech, blasted the IOC’s “attempts to bring representatives of the terrorist state into world sports.”

The original concept of the Olympics was as a competition among the finest amateur athletes in the world, not a competition among nations. In recent years professionals have been included and during the Cold War the communist nations made their national teams part of their foreign policy.

This past November here in Midland, the Dow Classic (WTA 125) strung the flags of the participating nationalities over Center Court.
The US flag was (of course) in the middle.
On the left of it was The Independent Territory of the Ukraine.
On the right of the US flag was the Russian Federation flag.
WTA sent instructions before the start...
Yeah he’s got better things to do. BUT, the IOC’s “Russia’s banned but the athletes aren’t” is a bunch of BS. Definitely give him that.

Will Russia or Ukraine have any able competitors left. Both countries are going through fighters like crazy. Definitely not Ukraine’s fault they are in this mess. But reality is they are unfortunately losing young people constantly.
