Vladimir Putin has threatened a 'response' involving 'military-political consequences' if the UK supplies planes to Ukraine in the fight against Russian forces.
President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday made his first visit to Britain since the outbreak of the invasion last year, warning that the war could 'stagnate' if jets are not forthcoming from the West.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, speaking at a joint press conference, responded to his plea by admitting 'nothing is off the table' when pushed on providing aircraft before stressing that Britain will now start preparing the Ukrainian air force.
But Moscow has threatened a 'response' if the Government does supply planes, with some Nato states concerned about provoking a direct clash.
The Russian Embassy in London strongly warned the UK against supplying the warplanes, saying Britain would bear responsibility 'for another twist of escalation and the ensuing military-political consequences for the European continent and the entire world'.

Unless tightly controlled wars escalate upwards in levels of violence until finally stabilizing at a very high level, wars also expand geographically as they escalate in force. There is somewhere a redline that if crossed will generate Russian use of battlefield and then theater nuclear weapons. From there the escalatory spiral goes further unless heroic efforts by the major combatants are made to stabilize and deescalate the conflict. The latter has never happened in history but crossing the nuclear threshold might generate an effort. Both sets of combatants has to ask the ends means question is Kiev worth an escalatory spiral that eentually ends with Moscow, London, Berlin or Washington ?

The problem is that such an escalatory spiral could be completed in mere minutes. And leaders in both nations are terrified of getting behind the curve. It’s a powerful incentive to launch the Sunday punch.

UK is basically full of sh**. Their active army is at its lowest strength in 200 years. In its one blue-sea operation last year, the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth carried 18 planes, out of a capacity of 60. 8 were owned by the Royal Navy, 10 were on loan from the US Marines.
They are pathetic. Their mouths are writing checks their asses can’t cash.
The last time the Russians lit up a NATO plane with an S-400 battery (over the Baltics), the plane made an immediate u-turn and ran for its life - so it will be interesting to see how effective these planes wind up being in Ukraine.
I never believed that the US would launch any strategic missiles against the Soviet Union as long the Soviets and the NATO were firing theater and battlefield missiles at each other over battlefield Germany. Do you honestly think any US president, even Biden, would be so stupid to rish CONUS over some thousands of Ukes or anyone else? SAC would never have been permitted to execute SIOP intact, only piecemeal and very slowly no matter what Lemay and his generals would have desired. TAC had a very detailed plan (now all destroyed) disguised as as failsafe option to destroy any attempt on the part of SAC to execute a segmented SIOP without detailed specific guidance. Detailed hotline releases to Moscow were included in the planning. The Soviets would accept a couple cities being glassed as fallout in such an operation. All of the propaganda about instant retaliation was just that propaganda, that the nuclear ‘football’ protocals are such a joke. They are never ever intended to be executed as written.

As to reducing cities to rubble, the person to ask is Zelensky - in most wars, once a city is about to be lost, the defending army pulls out. Zelensky seems to want every building destroyed prior to doing so.
