Russian ruble strikes weakest mark since April

The Russian ruble struck its weakest mark since late April on Tuesday, hurt by lower foreign currency revenue inflows from hydrocarbon exports and a continued recovery in imports as companies build new supply chains.

-snip-

The Russian government has been selling 8.9 billion rubles ($120.8 million) of foreign currency per day to plug a budget deficit that has soared because of lower oil and gas revenues.

Expectations for weaker energy revenue were also weighing on the Russian currency after the central bank cut its Urals oil price forecast on Friday. The bank dropped its projected average price for the rest of the year to $55 a barrel, down from its previous forecast of $70.

Brent crude oil, a global benchmark for Russia’s main export, was down 1 percent at $85.9 a barrel.

Putin having to sell off his foreign currency reserves because of his oil revenue collapse and the fact that Iran and China won't accept his crappy ruble to pay for all the crappy Iranian and China products he's being forced to import. LOL!

Did you even read the article before you went into zombie idiot mode?

“The ruble’s weakening from around the 68 mark to the dollar in mid-January to current levels can be explained mainly by foreign exchange market dynamics and imports, Alfa Capital analysts said.”

1. Oil and Gas revenue collapse.

2. Trade deficit with China and Iran.

“...Alfa Capital analysts said.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Group

“Alfa Group Consortium (Russian: Консорциум «Альфа-Групп») is Russian international privately owned investment groups, with interests in oil and gas, commercial and investment banking, asset management, insurance, retail trade, telecommunications, water utilities and special situation investments.”

No conflict of interest there. Nope, none at all. I’m sure their opinion on the ruble vis-à-vis international oil and gas markets is utterly objective.

That’s a nice image of a communist bear guarding a gulag.

Very nice indeed.

I responded to the part you quoted.

Alfa Capital is a Russian firm that is heavily invested in oil and gas and right now they’re getting hit on the exchange rate. It makes sense they’d try to spin this news to help moderate damage especially at home.

“Bakhmut has been liberated
It’s over”

>>>>>>>>>>>>

The statement above is fake news, pro-Soviet propaganda.

Below is the truth, even the boss of Wagner admits... :

“Wagner head Yevgeniy Prigozhin said Russian forces would not be able to capture Bakhmut anytime soon. In a post on the Telegram channel, Prigozhin said Ukraine was reinforcing with up to 500 new fighters a day.”

Whole article here :

> Bakhmut has been liberated <

Out of curiosity I looked it up. In the last reliable census (2001), Bakhmut was roughly 69% ethnic Ukrainian and 28% ethnic Russian. So I fail to see how this Russian move is a “liberation”. Sounds more like an occupation to me.

Kinda like how Germany “liberated” Warsaw in 1939.

“ Trade deficit with China and Iran.”
*********************************

Actually it’s China that has the trade deficit with Russia: ($38 Billion):

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-13/china-runs-record-trade-deficit-with-russia-as-energy-costs-jump#xj4y7vzkg

Contrast Russia’s trade SURPLUS with the US trade DEFICIT with China. The US deficit with China increased $29.4 billion to $382.9 billion in 2022. Exports increased $2.4 billion to $153.8 billion and imports increased $31.8 billion to $536.8 billion.

Mr. Prestov is a fundamentalist ultra pro-neo-soviet-fanatic supporting the Kremlin deep-state up to 101%. Yes, he is very enthusiastic - it’s not easy to break the 100% limit... :)

This probably explains his daily outlandish propaganda efforts here on FR.
