The New York Times acknowledged in a recent report that the Biden administration’s claims that former President Donald Trump’s administration was responsible for the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, due to it rolling back a rail safety rule was inaccurate.
“The White House has pushed back on such criticism from Republicans, accusing both the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers of dismantling the Obama-era rail safety measures meant to prevent episodes like the East Palestine derailment,” the Times report said.
“According to the website PolitiFact, a rail safety rule repealed as part of a broad regulatory rollback under the Trump administration would have had no impact on the East Palestine derailment,” it said.
And on Friday, National Transportation Safety Board Chair Jennifer Homendy also admitted that the Trump administration’s repeal “would not have prevented” the derailment.

Despite this debunking that the Trump administration was at fault for the Ohio derailment more than a week ago, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg perpetuated the lie while he visited Ohio a day after Trump.
PolitiFact reported that during the Obama administration, a new safety rule was adopted in 2015 requiring electronically controlled pneumatic brakes to be installed on all “high-hazard flammable unit trains” by 2023, allowing them to brake faster.
A high-hazard flammable unit train was defined as “a train going faster than 30 miles per hour with at least 70 loaded tank cars containing certain highly flammable liquids, such as crude oil and ethanol.”
Trump’s Department of Transportation rescinded that requirement in 2018, after determining that the costs were not justified.
Politifact reported, “However, even if this safety rule had still been in effect, it would not have applied to the Norfolk Southern train that derailed in East Palestine, because it was not categorized as a high-hazard cargo train.” It added:

The Biden administration is reeling after criticism that it acted too slowly after the derailment on February 3 and the subsequent release of toxic chemicals that forced residents to evacuate their homes.
As Breitbart News reported Friday, President Joe Biden only tweeted about the derailment a day before Trump was set to arrive in East Palestine, Ohio, on February 22.
WATCH: NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy says the brake rule Buttigieg and Joy Behar blamed President Trump for repealing 'would not have prevented' the East Palestine derailment.
"The wheel bearing failed on car number 23. So even with ECP brakes, the derailment would have occurred." pic.twitter.com/AECPta0T5F— Trump War Room (@TrumpWarRoom) February 24, 2023
ECP Brake testing were inconclusive as to benefit.
(Prolly some mfg trying to use regulations to increase sales)
An absurd claim from the get go. Just because new technology becomes available doesn’t mean the older stuff is somehow now unsafe.
Biden and his little DOT administrator are trying to shift the blame.
But none of this has any bearing because it was deliberate sabotage.
It is an area that voted for Tru.p. Demonrats want opponents dead
It is not that hard to figure out. Biden and the US government are evil. The are one of the most evil administrations on earth. They are more evil than the government in either Russia or China.
NTSB even got the track sensors detection of the hot bearing wrong. Or they fail to recognize how the hot bearing was noticed to begin with, which is through track sensing devices that scan every car that passes by and the scanning devices are put on track periodically for just this purpose. Maybe we need more scanning devices for scans of a shorter duration than what is already established as a nominal duration. That’s the problem.
New York Times?!?!?!?!
If (as Democrats yell) that the Ohio train wreck was Trumps fault, then the tens of thousands of fentanyl/drug deaths are Bidens fault for not closing the border.
Could it be that they sense the country’s disgust with Biden and also think nothing would be worse than DeSantis?
They also had a nice photo of him today in an article on a different subject, instead of the worst photo they could find.
NYTimes clearly wants Trump in the race for 2024 because their numbers will skyrocket. So, look for more positive news on Trump from the times.
But it didn’t stop Buttplug from continuing the lie did it?
Libtards believe him
As we discussed on the other threads on this topic, the Democrats have to try to create a historical event that never occurred to try to blame Republicans because the delayed and botched Federal response cannot be blamed on them because the Democrats are presently in charge. And of course left-wing media figures gladly picked up and spread the narrative regardless of the facts.
The only thing surprising about this news story is that the NYTs printed it.
I took for granted that the Biteme admin. was lying.
See posts 11 and 12.
That is no doubt where the NYTs is at, it’s all about the almighty dollar. Stinking capitalists! lol
I particularly liked jeffersondem’s post #5.
Its essence is this;
Biden blames Trump’s regulation change.
That means that Joetato sat there with his thumb up his caboose for two years and did nothing.
Yup.
They got orders to burn these cars full of vinyl chloride and create a massive amount of airborne, deadly phosgene gas.
The question should be: “What took them so long?”
The very first news reports of the incident told of “sparks and flames” coming from under one of the railcars. This is a classic description of a “hot box” - a failed axle bearing.
If I could know this the day after the incident, why did it take the NYT three weeks, and Pothole Pete Buttgag forever?
Biden has the power to reverse any and all actions taken by Trump at any time. He stopped the Keystone pipeline, reversed Trump’s order not to use CRT in the Federal Government, stooped construction of the border wall, and could have stayed in Afghanistan as long as he wanted. He also could have reversed Trump’s change to any DOT regulation relating to train brakes. Why didn’t he?
