I thought the same and checked. He is 58. However, he speaks much like a 25 year old Antifa-supporter. That’s scary and bodes badly for Washington state if that is the type the voters want. Of course we have the example of Seattle, but I know what it is like to live in a conservative state while being controlled by a progressive Capitol city ruled by the left. It may be that the sane people in the other areas are out-numbered by the crazies in the urban cities.
He is an attorney(of course), and graduated from New York University and University of Washington. He was elected in 2012 and then re-elected in 2016 and 2020, so has had over ten years to inflict his damage on the state.
And from reading some posts on here, from Floridians, the state is becoming too crowded.
With regards to DeSantis, given the “leadership” of other Republican Governors, is he really that good or do the rest just really suck that bad.
I lean mostly to the latter.
I don’t know for sure. But E. Oregon has exclusively very small towns, whereas E. Washington has medium sized towns like Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Yakima.

Cheney, Ellensburg, and Pullman really aren’t liberal bastions. Ellensburg does have a number of Western WA expats but overall ambiance is still pretty conservative. I think the absolute paucity of people in E. OR is the main factor.
