Pompeo Dunks On Trump Over Debt, Suggests Former Boss Isn’t ‘True’ Conservative
The Daily Wire ^ | 03/05/2023 | Daniel Chaitin

Posted on 03/06/2023 11:34:07 AM PST by thegagline

Mike Pompeo is openly casting doubt on the conservative bonafides of his one-time boss, former President Donald Trump, ahead of a potential face-off in 2024.

During an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” Pompeo talked about how a conservative president is needed to tackle the nation’s budget deficit and debt after years of neglect, including during the Trump administration. Anchor Shannon Bream then asked Pompeo if he was saying Trump was not a “true conservative leader,” using her guest’s words to describe the kind of president he argued is necessary to attain fiscal responsibility.

Fox's Shannon Bream: "Are you saying that President Trump wasn't a true conservative leader?"
*** Pompeo’s comments Sunday build upon remarks he delivered at Conservative Political Action Conference, chastising Trump for the nearly $8 trillion rise in the national debt during his presidency, largely attributed to coronavirus relief. “I stare today at $31 trillion in debt and tell my son, ‘Make sure you work hard, because Social Security may just not be there for you,’” he said on Friday, according to The Hill.

“Every recent administration, Republican and Democrat alike, added trillions in dollars to our debt,” Pompeo continued. “That is deeply unconservative. [The] Trump administration, the administration I served, added $8 trillion in new debt. This is indecent and can’t continue. Earning back that trust will be hard work, it won’t just be a campaign speech.”

And Mike Pompous did what exactly to introduce some semblance of conservatism into the notoriously liberal State Department?

Foggy Bottom laughed at him.

Stupid article.

Trump was hampered by THE RINO’s in Congress.

Congress controls the purse strings.

AND THIS LYING P.O.S. RINO KNOWS IT

There has not been a budget since they decided to run on ‘continuing resolutions’ under Obama...

Trump swore he would not sign another one after the first one, but the RINO’s in congress gave him no choice.

I’m not a huge Trump fan, but Trump was about as conservative as we could hope for after Bush I and Bush II, and the failed candidates in between like McCain and Romney. No candidate has been conservative on spending, period. The last one who came close was Ronald Reagan 40 years ago.

NOBODY in the “College of Cardinals” (Conservative Orthodoxy) believe Trump to be a conservative.

What they have forgotten is that Conservatism without Nationalism is like Faith without Works.

Making Trump the ONLY conservative in the race, and making THEM traitors to the American People.

No one cares about this deficit crap. The fake conservative media have been the boy who cried wolf about this for decades and they’ve never been right.

It’s just another thing they use to manipulate true conservative Americans into voting for billionaire welfare checks.

Same thing will happen if Trump wins in 2024.

Awww.... poor Trump. Did those mean RINO’s strong arm him? Poor guy. Hope it didn’t hurt too bad when they twisted his arm behind his back.

1. Pompeo is right about Trump on this point.

2. The Republican Party completely shredded its credibility on all matters related to Federal fiscal policy after 2000 when our national debt nearly doubled during the GWB administration, and when Congress never stopped pissing away trillions of dollars at any time when it was controlled by the GOP.

Sure Mike, Trump desired the debt increase.

I don’t like being lied to.

Pompeo pops his own credibility bubble.

Bye bye.

“And Mike Pompous did what exactly to introduce some semblance of conservatism into the notoriously liberal State Department?”

When Mike took over the State Dep he cut its long serving bureaucrats out of foreign policy, went around them and used his and Trumps selected people for critical foreign policy undertakings - Mexico, Korea, Iran and all the Middle East. Pompeo helped achieve Trump’s foreign policies.

“No one cares about this deficit crap.”

The more critical thing is why not? The debt and deficits are on target to start to consume the largest single % of the federal tax revenue - interest on the debt. That my friend is not crap. Inflationn stimulating low interest used to put the day of reckoning off indefinately, but with the cost (interest rates) on turning over that debt rising now, that day moves closer than ever.

I agree with you.

I could dig what Trump was doing on a LOT of things, but I never came away with the distinct impression that he was a fiscal conservative during those four years.

We will never stop this out of control spending until we get a balanced budget amendment, and we will never get a balanced budget amendment.

Trump blew up the deficit when he was convinced to play politics with his response to the Covid scam. “You must do something!, Vaxx, Vaxx, Vaxx, can’t fire Fauci, respect the experts, ventilators now”. Wanna buy a ventilator? Trump was played the sap. Worse than the majority of us. I hope to God he learned. As for this Pampeo putz, he’ll have the staying power of a Chris Christie. I hear Bolton is set to declare. There’d go half of Pampeo’s support. If nothing else, this guy ensures that the Raytheon view is presented. That is how a Uniparty Military Industrialist gets remuneration, check the campaign war chest he walks away with when he quits the campaign.

No candidate has been conservative on spending, period.

A president who does not have the votes to pass a conservative budget cannot necessarily be deemed as "not conservative"; let alone a president that given the RINO's in his party lived very close an abrupt impeachment and being kicked out of office.

Excessive government spending is certainly the root cause of the economic crisis we are facing, but austerity is NOT a realistic short term solution, any more than starvation is a safe way to lose weight.

President Trump recognized that strong economic growth is essential to any safe landing from a hundred years of government excess. He also recognized that there is low hanging fruit to be harvested that could stimulate that growth.

Eliminating woke job-killing regulations.
Energy independence/dominance.
Border control.
America first trade agreements and policies.
Restoring competition and honesty to healthcare, education and media.

Only with a powerful economy can we hope to unravel the debt spiral we are caught in… because a strong economy lifts people out of poverty and government dependence - and automatically lowers entitlement obligations.

A strong economy and financial self-reliance is the key to shrinking the government, and that is what MAGA is all about.

There is nothing more conservative than Trump’s MAGA movement.

Pompeo is just wrong.
