Watching an “establishment” republican argue fiscal conservatism is laughable anymore... Sad but true.

GOP has controlled both houses in my state for 28 out of the last 32 years.. only 1 time in 4 years did dems have control of 1 house...

Yet we have the HIGHEST GAS TAXES IN THE COUNTRY...

Don’t piss on my leg and tell me its rain..

Until folks wake up and realize the GOP Establishment is just as much a part of the problem, NOTHING is going to change.

You bet.
But you know what?
They all are scum today.
Trump exposed all of them in his run and term.

Trump’s enemies turn out to be bipartisan..
Both R’s and D’s..

The R vs D Con died with Trump’s term.
It’s MAGA vs Swamp now.
At least in my view..

Lots of R’s are Swamp First.

No, he is not - but if he wins the nomination he has my vote for his Supreme Court picks alone. Alito and Thomas will both likely retire from the bench during the next presidential term.

What would he have done differently?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Killing Obamacare and its expansion of Medicaid would have been a very big start for controlling federal expenditures. It was blocked by Paul Ryno and later by McCain.
In the pandemic we found out even more the dangers of government controlling healthcare. They immediately morphed into tyrannical monsters.
Just like the Patriot Act: Give the government some power and they will absolutely abuse it ASAP.
I think Pompeo deserves a bit more respect, if only for his 5 years on active duty, as well as graduating first in his class at West Point. I had my share of run ins with “ring knockers” during my 8 years on active duty, but the vast majority were good officers.
Being a Cav officer near the Iron Curtain had to have its share of challenging situations. I had it made by comparison: my battalion’s mission was air base defense for Hahn, Bitburg, and Spangdahlem air bases. My soldiers spent very little time in the field, and ate them n AF dining facilities.
The only time I had field duty was during Army alerts and evaluations. During AF alerts, I was in the Hahn AB Wing CP for the duration of the alert, usually 4 days.
I was one of just two officers with a TS clearance, the battery commander was the other. I was 23-24 at the time, all nighters were no problem.
I preferred Army evaluations, I was in my element as a Platoon Leader or XO. AF alerts were mostly boring, except when there was an NBC input, when I would be summoned to the “Eagles Nest”, to offer my recommendation on how the Wing Cdr should respond. Why I was called, instead of the Wing Disaster Preparedness Officer, is a story interesting to myself.
Well if we had only partial the inflation we would be in much better shape today.
Pelosi, Schumer, and the Dems were willing to let the entire economy completely collapse if they did not get their way. There was already an agreement in place for an emergency spending bill not loaded with their pork and special interest spending but Pelosi came over to the Senate chamber and convinced Schumer and the Senate Democrats to derail it and use the pandemic as a political opportunity. That’s the type of ethics we were dealing with.
Mixed thoughts there: A whole lot of FReepers thought, along with a lot of other people, that the Covid shutdowns would cause an economic collapse. Pres. Trump tried to steer a middle course (ie., not over-reacting to COVID with the shutdowns and so on) and for his trouble got savaged as practically the worst thing since your four most hated WW2 Nazis all in one...
Given that the US economy did recover reasonably well, vs. the possibility of a collapse that might have cost more, well — at the very least, I think Pompeo (who I generally like just for giving clear answers, even if I don’t always agree with them) needs to explain what he supported (in a documentable way) at the time. Though I don’t like that huge debt increase, in absence of a better plan at the time, it doesn’t turn me negative on Trump.
Unfortunately, I’m afraid Trump does have a big problem for designating himself @ CPAC as some sort of source or force of retribution toward those who have harmed his supporters. I’m not saying that anger is not justified, but, expressing it so openly and directly it will turn off all moderates of any stripe, and likely over 2/3 the average GOP voters. It’s quite a bit of a step further than ridiculing opponents and so on.
Does your state have an income tax?
Just curious if those additional consumption taxes are because there is no income tax or other types of taxes that may exist in other states.
You have to wonder what (and how much) former Trump supporters and Cabinet members are being offered to suddenly turn on Trump.
Also, the GOPe hasn’t mentioned how they plan to deal with the fact that millions of Trump supporters are not going to just fall in line and vote for the Romney or Bush candidate they select for us to vote for in 2024. They have joined the left in denigrating anyone who supports Trump, even to the point of calling us white supremacists, insurrectionists, etc. How do they plan to get us to the voting booth?
Right and Trump had to get the military built back up. And he was increasing federal revenue through overall growth until the Plandemic.
I would pay $$$$ to watch a debate between Pompeo & Trump on financial questions.
No, it has an income tax, which they are discussing raising..
People need to wake up to reality.. the Establishment GOP is just as much a part of the problem as the Democrats.
We have all the taxes you can think of... 7% sales tax 61+ per gallon gas tax, Regional Asset Taxes, Borough Taxes, School Taxes, County Taxes, etc etc etc etc.
Mike Pompous did NOTHING to control deficit spending while in Congress.
Why should I trust that gas bag now because Benji’s Daily Wire says so?
All Mike Pompous’ comments reinforce to me is that Republicans are all talk and no action. Where is Mike Pompous’ deficit reduction plan? He doesn’t have one.
Trump is a pro government Nationalist. He can’t be counted on to control spending or to make government smaller.
The argument is nonsense and one worthy of liberal.
The deficit was way down under Trump in comparison to Obama before Covid. ANY President would have seen the deficit because of Covid.
And, Trump submitted lower budgets that the Republicans in Congress in his first two years.
No one with half a brain buys these attacks.
The level of debt increase under Trump is nothing short of breathtaking. Not only did he take the debt accumulation curve parabolic, but he made it fashionable for Republicans to expect free money from the government.
I would say that Trump did not slow down the growth in the national debt. We can argue about whether he sped it up since the acceleration was obviously more about COVID than Trump.
