Rubio pushes back on DeSantis remarks: Russia-Ukraine war ‘not a territorial dispute’

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on Tuesday that the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war is not a “territorial dispute,” pushing back against remarks made by his home state Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on the matter.

In a questionnaire sent out by Fox News personality Tucker Carlson to potential 2024 presidential candidates, DeSantis said “becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia” was not among the United States’ “vital national interests.”

During an appearance on the “Hugh Hewitt Show” on Tuesday, Rubio was asked about those remarks from DeSantis.

“Well, it’s not a territorial dispute in the sense that any more than it would be a territorial dispute if the United States decided that it wanted to invade Canada or take over the Bahamas,” Rubio told Hewitt during Tuesday’s episode. “Just because someone claims something doesn’t mean it belongs to them.”

Russia and globalists are fighting over Ukraine, which neither should control.

It most certainly can be called a territorial dispute. It’s also an invasion by Russia into a sovereign neighbor that was a long time Soviet possession and victim of horrific treatment by Stalin. But not directly, ie. by treaty commitment, a vital national interest of ours. DeSantis’ remarks were exactly on target.

What about Federal Income Tax, Marco?

It is the absolute definition of a territorial dispute, Lil.

Neville Chamberlain’s birthday is coming up on March 18. Maybe DeSantis can announce his candidacy for President on that day.

"Invasion" is a more precise description than saying it's a "territorial dispute".

It's an invasion. Doesn't mean that we should be involved in it. We have more important things right now to take care of, for example our border. We can't afford to be involved in Ukraine.

But that doesn't mean we should be wimpy about calling it what it is in order to justify our inaction.

Is DeSantis trying to back away from his previous neocon views because he realizes the Ukraine proxy war is becoming unpopular with voters? With an expensive banking crisis to resolve, sending large sums of money to Ukraine is a losing proposition. Besides the war is winding down and could end by fall anyway. The deep state is ready to pivot to China, let’s see what DeSantis has to say about that.

Have you forgotten we were directly involved in persuading Ukraine to return all the nukes in its territory to Russia saying we would defend them for doing so. So now we are defending them, which also defends our word and our honor. I don’t know what there is on paper, probably there is something, but definitely a moral commitment to oppose naked aggression.

Regarding federal Ukraine / Russia policy, Rubio and DeSantis need to uphold their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution by pointing out that the General Welfare Clause cannot be used to justify foreign aid.
If the tax be not proposed for the common defence, or general welfare, but for other objects, wholly extraneous, (as for instance, for propagating Mahometanism among the Turks, or giving aids and subsidies to a foreign nation, to build palaces for its kings, or erect monuments to its heroes,) it would be wholly indefensible upon constitutional principles [emphases added].” — Justice Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution 2 (1833).

Patriots, the bottom line is this imo. What is your threshold of “pain” for peacefully stopping unconstitutionally big state and federal governments controlled by bully, constitutionally undefined political parties, from oppressing the people under their boots?

The inevitable remedy for ongoing, post-17A ratification, corrupt political party treason (imo)...

All MAGA patriots need to wake up their RINO federal and state lawmakers by making the following clear to them.

If they don’t publicly support either a resolution, or a Constitutional Convention, to effectively "secede" ALL the states from the unconstitutionally big federal government by amending the Constitution to repeal the 16th (direct taxes) and 17th (popular voting for federal senators) Amendments (16&17A), doing so before the primary elections in 2024, that YOU will primary them.

If the proposed amendment was limited strictly to repealing 16&17A, relatively little or ideally no discussion would be needed before ratification of the amendment imo.

With 16&17A out of the way, my hope is that Trump 47 becomes the FIRST president of a truly constitutionally limited power federal government.

In the meanwhile, I'm not holding my breath for significant MAGA legislation to appear in the first 100 days of new term for what may still prove to be another RINO-controlled House.

Trump will hopefully do another round of primarying RINOs for 2024 elections.

Calling this war a “territorial dispute” is an EXTREMELY shallow understanding of what is going on. The territorial bit, while now seized upon (justifiably, IMO) by the Ukies as a reason to fight, is / was only a modest aspect / initiating factor (out of several larger) compared to deeper motives & forces, and even at that is almost as much a consequence as a deeper factor.

If this is really what Gov. DeSantis thinks, I am deeply disappointed in the depth of his understanding. Even if he is a bit busy running FL.

Scroll to page 167.

The several pages starting at page 146 are also useful.

Lots of FReepers only have honor and morality when it is convenient for them or their argument(s). Ditto for a lot of the “Christianity” around here, these days, sadly.

DeSantis needs to study some real history about what forced the United States to become involved in the world wars and not the revisionism pushed by anti-American Internet trolls. It’s up to him, though—his election loss.
