Biden will let California lead on electric trucks, despite industry protest
Washington Post ^ | March 21, 2023 | Anna Phillips

The Biden administration will approve new California rules to cut tailpipe pollution and phase out sales of diesel-burning trucks, according to three people briefed on the plans, a move that could jump-start the nation’s transition to electric-powered trucks and help communities harmed by diesel pollution.

About 40 members of the Moving Forward Network, a collection of environmental justice groups, met with EPA administrator Michael Regan and other agency staff in Washington last week to demand tougher pollution limits for heavy trucks, and those that load and unload at the nation’s ports.

Moving Forward Network? Moving inflation forward, moving poverty forward and eventually moving starvation forward.

Their plan to produce empty shelves is working already.

The trucking industry really needs to show the Dung Beetles whose running the chicken coop. Shut the entire industry down. They need to understand, they hold the hammer on this. All the Dung Beetles have to hit you with is a rubber chicken.

You nailed it. They sure won’t be moving products and produce forward.

When do you suppose they will ever honestly address the fundamental problem of NO POWER to charge all these vehicles?

Truckers need to boycott blue cities and deny deliveries of food, medicine and retail goods to those cities.

Ultimately if this country is saved, it will be because of Truckers and Farmers.

As if we aren’t having supply problems already in California - any retail business, including supermarkets - has either empty shelves or merchandise strewn out to make it look like the shelves aren’t empty.

Having trouble getting certain items now, stores always seem to be out or the item is on “backorder” - going on six months. Cat food comes to mind, but there are a lot of others.

What does Newsom care? He knows he and his family can get anything THEY need delivered and on time. The guy is a total hypocrite - yet idiots keep voting for him.

Should be a complete union and non union embargo of CA. Truckers, long shoremen, dock workers, etc.

If they are so hot on it. Let CA State gov handle ALL shipments of ALL cargo via electric vehicle.

And while they are at it.. Completely shut down port of LA and reroute everything to other major ports.

If they do it with trucks. They will do it with everything from massive cranes to forklifts.

Isn’t this going to cause supply chain issues long term?

Isn’t it a fact that the bulk of imported goods from Asia come through California ports such as Los Angeles and Long Beach?

And then those products are loaded onto trucks that have to drive through California to get to other parts of the country?

Are we saying that those trucks need to meet these stringent California standards in order to ship products out of California to other parts of the country?

Are we saying that a diesel truck is not going to be allowed to enter California?

I can foresee problems ahead......

Most people are unfamiliar with logistics & haven’t a clue as to the impact of this decision.

e.g., Port of Long Beach.

The cost-effective diesel trucks can leave their goods on the California state line and let electric trucks make several trips to deliver the load.

Not to mention all the bankruptcies of small truckers and all the drivers thrown out of work.

First CA wants every trucking company to upgrade their trucks. No trucks before some date will be allowed to run (I don’t recall the date. 2012? 2015?)

So trucking companies need to make massive investments in new trucks. Apparently you can’t retrofit old diesel engines to make them compliant.

But those truck investments will have limited life because they will be outlawed.

What a tyrannical country and state.

DC has always let CaCaLand “lead” on crappola like this.

And, this is how y’all will pay for every bad step out thisaway. BeijingBiden’s approval will be followed by loads of $$ — which will be skimmed by locals.

We already saw what can happen at our ports——

“Supply Chain problems” was just a trial run, IMO.
