Well, when you develop double vision, the drops eliminate the condition. The double vision is common as you get older

I use a variety of eye drops for my dry eyes, but most often "Refresh" and "Systane Ultra." Sometimes I pick up "Equate" at Walmart. I just looked at the Equate bottle and it says "satisfaction guaranteed." Does losing your eye count as a valid reason to be dissatisfied?

Sometimes, when I'm out, I pick up off-brands at a convenience store. I'll have to check all my bottles. I keep them in the car and a few drawers at home.

My eye doc just two weeks ago said the preservatives in eye drops can actually dry your eyes out more quickly and aggravate dry eye. The more you use the drops, the more often you'll need them! He suggested preservative-free drops and gave me some samples that come in panel of tear-off single-use plastic tubes. I don't remember the brand he recommended, but I just found that Refresh makes one...

“Preservative-free drops come in disposable single-use vials. So long as people do not touch the tip of the vial to their eyes or keep it for more than a day, preservative-free drops are safe and a great option for dry eyes,” Ma said. “They tend to be gentle on the eyes and can be used more frequently throughout the day.”

“Most patients reported using 10 different brands of artificial tears, but EzriCare Artificial Tears, “a preservative-free” brand. Notice preservative free, I’m guessing a preservative would have killed the bacteria.”

The eyedrop solution is supposed to be sterile when purchased so someone screwed up the sterilization cycle on the solution or the contamination was in the bottles which are also supposed to be sterile. The preservative (usually benzalkonium chloride) is there to prevent bacterial growth after the bottle is opened and is more of a disinfectant.

I’m with you on the idea that preservatives are there for a purpose.
