Eight new confirmed cases of Marburg disease have been reported in Equatorial Guinea, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday.
This brings the total of laboratory-confirmed cases to nine and probable cases to 20 since the outbreak of the deadly disease similar to Ebola was declared in February. Twenty deaths have been reported.
Of the eight new cases, two were reported from the Central African country's Kie-Ntem province, four from the Litoral province and two from Centre-Sur province, the WHO said in a statement.

I hope it doesn’t spread as far as Polar Guinea
Thanks, Ben!Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Quarantine the sick. Protect the vulnerable. Hang the guilty. Free everyone else.
Thanks Null...

Is Fowlchi funding a “Gain Of Function Lab” there?
You might want to add....Marburg comes from a bat (no one seems to argue over that part). Egyptian Rousette bat is the one mentioned....oddly doesn’t seem to weaken it at all.
Friendly reminder that ordinary antihistamines prevent hemorrhagic diseases such as this one from reaching the fatal stage.
Another disease for big pharma to “cure” with an injection of some sorts.
