...Speaking to reporters hours after a 28-year-old former student shot and killed six people at a private Christian school, Burchett contended that there were no solutions to the ongoing—and uniquely American—plague of mass shootings.
“Three precious little kids lost their lives, and I believe three adults, I believe, and the shooter of course, lost their life too,” he declared. “So, it’s a horrible, horrible situation. And, we’re not gonna fix it.”
Burchett continued: “Criminals are gonna be criminals. And my daddy fought in the Second World War, fought in the Pacific, fought the Japanese, and he told me, he said, ‘Buddy,’ he said, ‘if somebody wants to take you out, and doesn’t mind losing their life, there’s not a whole heck of a lot you can do about it.’”
The Tennessee lawmaker was then asked if Congress had any responsibility in the wake of this latest school shooting, prompting Burchett to claim that he and his fellow representatives would only make things worse.
“I don’t see any real role that we could do other than mess things up, honestly, because of the situation,” he replied. “Like I said, I don’t think a criminal is going to stop from guns, you know, you can print them out on the computer now, 3-D printing, and, there’s really, I don’t think you’re going to stop the gun violence.”
...
At one point, a reporter asked the GOP lawmaker: “What else should be done to protect people like your little girl from being safe in school?”...“Well, we homeschool her,” he responded with a shrug. “But you know, that’s our decision. Some people don’t have that option and frankly, some people don’t need to do it. I mean, they don’t have to. It just suited our needs much better.”

You are exactly right.
Excellent idea. Cops could also have a cup of coffee, or a sandwich in their cars, parked in front of schools.
Nice chart. But the risk line DOES go through zero. Zero stocks in the portfolio has zero portfolio risk. Being homeschooled has zero risk of being shot in public or private school.
they aren’t very useful in the back of the truck ...
There is something fundamentally defective about a social order where parents routinely send their children away to institutions where the kids have no parental supervision, and are being overseen by adults who the parents have no role in hiring.
I take issue with your premise. You assume that an armed teacher is capable of repelling an intruder because she has a gun in her desk drawer.
I don’t think many or even any female teachers will draw down and kill an intruder.
Congress CREATED the problem by passing the Community Mental Health Act of 1963! Now they can't fix it!
I'm old enough to remember when there were shooting galleries on the NEW JERSEY shore boardwalks, and drunk guys tried to impress their girlfriends with their marksmanship skills by winning them plush stuffed toys. (Unlikely, between the alcohol and the shot-out .22 rifles, but they tried, and nobody died.)
Great post. Thanks!
If you're taking about guards, that's plausible.
If you're talking about arming teachers, I respectfully disagree.
It's a great theoretical argument, but it collapses under empirical weight.
In short, who gets to pick the teachers that'll pack heat?
Will it be some school board-designated committee (because we know how they LOVE justice)?
Will it be union goons?
Maybe it'll be the librarian who just added a bunch of Antifa books to the catalog.
Maybe it'll be this Fearless Lady.
Or that collection of sex ed specialists pushing the latest claptrap on children.
It sure won't be the parents, who are "domestic terrorists" in the eyes of the DOJ.
I'll go a few steps further....let's say some leftist agitator-teacher who did 4 years in the Army's is deemed "competent." He sees a bunch of conservative students and monitors their online activity, decides they're a threat because they wrote "Let's Go Brandon" and FJB and posted pictures of them at gun shows on Instagram, and draws his weapon on them in class and calls the cops.
He will argue (and, I submit to you, be supported in the press and by the school board vociferously) that he stopped a possible disaster. The parents of these students will sue, the NEA will protect the teacher at all costs, the parents will spend thousands on legal fees and their kids will be doxxed and have a hard time getting in to college or trade school.
The teacher will keep his job and become a celebrity for 20% of this nation, and be loathed by 30-40% of the Deplorables. The remainder/ballast will waffle. Meanwhile, another school shooting will happen because that's part of the systematic risk in a free nation.
In contemporary America, this guy will carry in schools...
Viable options include Homeschooling and private schools. But as long as in loco parentis reigns supreme, this is a futile situation.
If more parents took school board elections seriously then they would have a role in the hiring process.
Exactly right. My dh is a retired teacher/administrator and I just asked him. He said the only answer is “keeping them out” by having armed personnel visible and ready to respond. But how could we know if they weren’t nuts too? We homeschooled and I bet that segment is booming.
You paint with to broad of a brush.
To convince yourself.
In our school system, the sheriff provides deputies to be on site during school hours. Entry is restricted to the entrance where the deputy is located.
Any one lacking a valid reason for entry is turned away.
It works
Exactly.
Almost 100% of USA public mass shootings take place in a gun free zone.
It is the equivalent of banks leaving piles of cash laying around in the lobby, and then complaining about theft.
One possibility in schools - wide distribution of ballistic shields would give brave students and teachers the opportunity to rush the shooter.
The unspoken rule would be that no student or teacher would be charged with a crime if the (male) shooter's face and genitals were beaten into a bloody pulp while being subdued.
Another possibility - mandatory federal death penalty for mass shooters, with highly accelerated trials and appeals.
He brushed nothing off. He stressed upfront, the severity and horror of the Nashville shooting but the MSM is going to write whatever they want to and stress that it’s the truth.
They still wouldn’t have much of a role … because retarded Democrat parents vote, too.
There. Finally someone is willing to talk to the root cause.
If we allow crazies to roam around and jack everyone up with drugs, no hardening or ban will help.
Remove crazies and nobody then has to act as if there was a murderer around every corner.
....a few pathological maniacs...
Start with a young teen Tomboy.
Administer testosorone and a cocktail of drugs on a regular basis for many many years.
What could go wrong?
Well, mebe you scramble their brains and hormones and they convince themselves a shooting spree is the only answer to their mental problems
If you operated a gun store, and a man walks in dressed as a woman or a cat, or whatever... Would you sell them a gun? I wouldn’t. Probably someone would try to force me to bake the cake. I’d like to see them try to litigate something like that.
Just stop talking to the enemy press, they are not your friends.
