No gag order imposed in Trump case
The Hill ^ | 04/04/2023 | JULIA MUELLER AND ZACH SCHONFELD

Former President Trump and his legal team won’t be barred from publicly discussing the case in which he was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

After much speculation about whether a gag order would be imposed on parties in the case, one was not requested during the Tuesday arraignment — and the judge presiding over the case said he wouldn’t have granted one if it had.

Legal observers had wondered ahead of the high-profile trial whether Judge Juan Merchan would impose the uncommon order, which would have blocked Trump and his team from talking publicly about the trial at the risk of potentially being found in contempt of court.

The former president has been vocal about the case on his social media, bashing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) and criticizing the case as a politically motivated “witch hunt” against him.

Trump will make lemonade from these lemons - big backfire, incredibly weak case, total political persecution which will get Trump many many news votes.

EVEN NEIL CAVUTO SAYS THIS IS A NOTHING BURGER.

I’ve read speculation there would be one, but nothing certain. If they’d slapped a gag order on Trump — then Bragg and his blabby wife would have to shut up, right? Any lawyers out there who can say whether this is so? I am not a lawyer.

They're trying to prevent the spectacle of an immediate 1st amendment filing--charging and then preventing the defendant from speaking, only to have 'leaks' in the press.

I think that action would not sit well with people, except the dimmest, clueless, and rabidly partisan.

This makes me think the judge isn’t impressed with this case.

Thanks. I have traditionally thought the attorney’s were
covered by it too. I’m not an attorney or close to the
professions, but I did stay at a run-down flea trap last
night.

No gag order. That would occasion a raised eyebrow as to the claimed left bias of this judge. I would love to see Bragg get sanctioned by the judge.

Rofl! I hope someone here knows the answer. I can’t help suspecting they didn’t go for a gag order because they did not want their own side silenced ... or supposedly silenced, but still leaking and blabbing.

I am of course livid about what they are doing to Trump, but hope this will wake up some MOR Republicans and Independents to the shockingly corrupt state of Democrat installed legal system. Trying to find some silver lining in this ugly cloud, maybe, maybe just wishful thinking.

It is the thing that Bragg hopes to gag on.

I. e. if a gag order had been requested.

The DA’s behavior indicates he is solely interested in preventing Trump from running, which a political goal and has nothing to do with enforcing the law. Democrats frequently play dirty and then declare that their motives are pure. Bragg is going to waste the money of the people of Manhattan to pursue a case he can’t win. He’s showboating for the mob. The appropriate way to deal with this conduct is a recall.

Theory! The realize that the leaks were illegal, and to protect the leakers, they agree to no gag order.
