The GOP Can Save Itself if Trump Runs, Then Loses the Election

Recently, I’ve come to terms with the likelihood that Donald Trump will (gulp!) be the Republican presidential nominee, again. That’s right, it may only be April, but I’ve entered the “Jesus Take The Wheel” stage for the 2024 campaign.

Call it naive wishcasting, but until recently, I thought that Ron DeSantis might help us avoid this very situation. But the last month or so has not gone well. DeSantis’ rocky rollout (technically, he still hasn’t entered the race), coupled with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment, have elevated Trump to clear frontrunner status.

Trump Wants to Turn His Most Toxic Baggage Into Primary Gold

While there are a million reasons to fear Trump winning the Republican nomination, I am comforting myself by the fact that there could be a silver lining: If the goal is to truly eradicate Trumpism, the most obvious method is for Trump to win the Republican nomination, and then (this part is important) he must be decisively defeated.

It has been observed that political parties do not change until they have endured multiple losses. If that is true of normal parties, it is doubly true of a MAGA movement headed by Donald Trump.

As a Never Trump conservative, I never wanted to have to come to grips with this scenario. I would love for someone to wrest control of the GOP from Trump, but it is looking increasingly unlikely that Republicans are capable of stopping Trump from once again winning their presidential nomination.

As usual, Republicans rooting for the DEFEAT of the REPUBLICAN nominee, so they can regain the mechanisms of a corrupt and inept party.

Most Desantis supporters are country clubbing, style over substance, GOPers. There really isn’t that many of them.

“Never Trump conservative”

there’s an oxymoron if there ever was one, with significant emphasis on the “moron” part ...

Which POTUS was as successful as Trump? Look at what Trump accomplished:

  1. Gas price per gallon was about $2.30;
  2. Inflation about 1.4%, mortgage rates were half of what they are now;
  3. Unemployment was low before Covid and before Blue Governors shut everything down and we were in the midst of a V-shape recovery until January 22, 2021;
  4. Tax decrease; tax laws promoted small businesses as well as large;
  5. US enjoyed energy independence - No Green Agenda, no war on energy, No Paris Treaty;
  6. No war in Ukraine, no threat of nuclear war, NATO paid its way;
  7. China was quiet and we were winning the trade war;
  8. US companies were bringing home the jobs due to well executed tax treatments;
  9. Peace in the Middle East aka Abraham Accords; US Embassy moved to Jerusalem; and Iran was isolated.
  10. Got three non-left “I don't know what a woman is” Supreme Court Justices on the bench allowing Roe vs Wade to be overturned.

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?

I can smell the RINO rot from here, and I am a continent away.

There is nothing at all wrong with PDJT. Its all illusory.A media created bugaboo is "Orange Man Bad."

You hear the gnashing of RINO teeth as they cannot shake PDJT's 40 point lead over DeSanctimonious.

Trump IS the salvation of America:

What makes this “Never-Trump conservative” think that there will ever be another Republican president in the post-Trump era?

What part of Trump's first adminstration was not conservative?

Was it:

  1. Low inflation?
  2. Low unemployment, especially for blue collar work?
  3. Rising real wages?
  4. Standing up to China and tariffs?
  5. Building a wall and having the most secure border since the 1960s?
  6. Cheap gas, super high oil production?

That is an incomplete list but please tell us what is not conservative about any of those things?

Due to the red-state, blue-state divisions, I don’t think we’ll see a margin like Reagan’s again. In other words, Trump in ‘24 will get more electoral votes than either Mondale’s 13 or Carter’s 49.

The combination of Trump and abortion will result in more like the margins of Clinton in ‘92 or ‘96 where George HW Bush got 168 and Dole got 159. The Clinton Dole election also raises the issue of will there be a third party Ross Perot candidate?

Never-Trumpers are like the Washington Generals. Winning is not important as long as you get a place at the trough.

Where are the J6 tapes? Why won’t Mccarthy released them to the general public? Or at least another source since Carlson seems to have been blocked by Fox management. We might even be able to identify some of the provocateurs dressed in all black who smashed windows.

The gop is the only party in history to perfect the art of drawing a line in the sand then tripping over it. Gop...synonymous with inept.

Haha. The republican party does not represent its voters and hasn’t for a long time. That’s the problem and that’s why there is Trump. The problems with the republican party speak to an even wider problem with America as a whole. Democrat voters have rejected America and everything that it stands for. They have unofficially seceded from our country and are now operating an authoritarian style government where America once stood.
