Personal protection and self-defense are secondary reasons for me to own a gun, just like hunting. I don’t need to hunt to eat. And though I’ve drawn my weapon to defend myself, I didn’t have to shoot anyone.

The main reason to own a gun to me is to deter aspiring tyrants. There is an endless supply of caring Karen politicians who want nothing more than to micromanage every aspect of your life for your own good. We saw this on display during COVID lockdowns, forced mask-wearing, and forced vaccinations.

“fewer than 3 percent of gun owners ever use a weapon in self-defense”

Even that proposed number is a pretty substantial number.

The statistical fact that only 3% of gunowners ever have use their weapon in self defense he means the system works.

True, but the author's premise is nonsense. Most people are never in a crash in an automobile but automobiles have seatbelts, and most states require drivers and passengers to wear them. Why? For most people they can go through their entire lives and never need a seatbelt.

The same is true for smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Rarely does anyone get woken from their sleep by an actual fire in their home, or need to use the office fire extinguisher. Most sprinklers never activate.

But by the author's logic we don't need guns, seat belts, fire extinguishers, sprinklers or smoke detectors either.

Not that I accept any of this idiot’s conclusions... Maybe he can explain how many crimes are prevented simply by a crook not knowing wether or not a victim is armed?

Yet very, very few gun owners end up defending themselves and their families from the sort of random crime they fear.

In a related story:

Most motor vehicle passengers never actually need their safety belts, and very, very few airline passengers ever actually use those dorky little oxygen masks that are supposed to plop down in the event of a decompression.

I would advise the moronic dip$hit liberal loon that it makes more sense to get rid of the criminals than the guns.

I’m disabled and weigh 125 pounds. I couldn’t swing a baseball bat now even I wanted to

Cops are at least 20-30 minutes away

Without an equalizer, I’m a dead victim if someone comes through my door

I believe I’ll just keep my leeettle friend Siggy right where he is near me, thank you

"--delusional--the author need "help"--"

Then why did you post this?

Baker is a 9/11 conspiracy fantasist and was one of the primary drivers of the false narrative about Shrub's military service. Baker is an anti-constitutionalist scumbag WHO MERITS NO POSTING ON FREE REPUBLIC.

I am not afraid. I am prepared. I am prepared for the sort of people like this author that wants to take away our freedoms. Their God is government, and as such they think government is capable of bestowing and eliminating rights. That's the essence of the entire issue. I believe in the One True God, and he (not she) gave everyone in the entire world fundamental freedoms and rights. It is our government's responsibility to protect those rights from people exactly like this author. Our government did not give us rights and thusly, cannot take them away.

It is our right and duty to overthrow a tyrannical government when our rights and freedoms are taken. That is exactly the purpose of the second amendment, considering what our Founding Fathers had just gone through with England. Just read about what the Red Coats did on April 19, 1775. That began the revolution.

To all those who believe that firearms must be banned so that violent crime will drop, let me ask you these few questions:

When in the history of man in the pre firearms era have the strong not preyed on the weak?

If somehow all firearms were destroyed so that no one had any, would that change?

And finally, if all privately owned firearms are banned and confiscated, do you thing that the government will destroy all theirs and not use them against the people should they revolt against tyranny?

For the first time in history, firearms allowed a frail 80 year old grandmother to successfully defend themselves against a larger, stronger assailant.

Simply the knowledge that a person may be armed deters MANY criminals.
