I remember the Sunday morning in mid-March 2020 just as things were getting really crazy, and I was with a friend in what was normally a very busy restaurant for brunch. It was only about 3/4 full.
We could see the bar’s TV from our table and I saw a creepy little garden gnome come on one of the talking head shows and say that he strongly recommended shutting everything down in the U.S. for two weeks to defeat this coronavirus everyone was talking about. My friend and I thought he was crazy. We shook our heads, saying “Can you imagine???”
We never thought they’d really *do* it.
But the very next day, there were stupid California and New York, leading the way.
California at that time (mid March 2020) was actually threatening that they would prevent people from leaving the state!
My wife managed purchasing at our local school district and they shut everything down on March 16. We had bought a summer home in North Idaho a couple years before that and I finished a lot of improvement and remedial work just in time for the California shutdown. So my wife grabbed our puppy, hopped in the car, and fled California for Idaho on the morning of March 17. She escaped the proposed total lockdown of CA and got to Idaho before the insanity reached peak levels.
I stayed in CA for a couple of months and joined her in Idaho after that. What a contrast in how two states dealt with it. Things were pretty much normal in Idaho but total insanity in CA. In the end, you cannot tell the difference in results in both states in terms of infections, hospitalization, ICUs, and deaths. That you had two extreme statewide experiments going on with the same outcome told me all I needed to know.
Looking back, weren't Trump & Pence hearing alternative (non-Fauci) voices? There were reputable professionals who were pro-therapeutics, anti-lockdown, anti-vaccine! Trump & Pence chose to go all-in with Fauci and his ilk, which was a very bad and deadly decision.

Liar. Every entity that shut down "out of an abundance of caution" did so to be in compliance with "CDC guidelines". Fauci and his entire chain of command, up and down, bear full responsibility for the deliberate economic destruction they orchestrated.
