CDC study that masking groups had covid infections of about 11%. Masked groups had covid infections of about 12%.
Statistically no difference.
Masks less than an N95 are ineffective.
Expecting a massive population to wear masks “properly” is not realistic.

Especially when most people don’t want to wear them. And then you try to keep forcing it on them for two frickin years.
N95 masks properly worn do provide decent short term protection (about 15 minutes in close contact). The masks most people wore however, were basically useless and constantly reusing the same mask (even a N95) not only decreased it’s efficiency but was unhygienic.
An N95 mask stops viruses about as well as a chain link fence stops mosquitos.

When COVID first came out and everyone had to wear masks, I had to go to the doc. While waiting, I watched both patients waiting and staff wearing all sorts of masks, from paper surgical to homemade to N95 masks. It wasn’t long to see people touching, removing and rubbing their noses, mouths etc without washing hands.
And the staff was just as bad.
From then on I figured it was just a joke.
Btw, I got COVID twice and it was no big deal.
