Of course, further down in the article, Trump is blamed since he withdrew from the nuclear deal.

An Iranian miscalculation? This was a Chevron chartered tanker destined for Houston, but ultimately owned by Chinese leasing. Given that China is Iran’s biggest taker of crude I rather suspect there will be some hot calls to Tehran from Beijing shortly

Wasn't seized. Wasn't even "headed for Texas". 'Twas a gift to the new China/Russia/Iran/Saudi/EU/Japan/et cetera alliance.

Let’s guess that the China balloon that floated over the USA provided info for this location.

Gee wasn’t it just a few years ago when the US was a net exporter of oil and didn’t need to import oil from the Gulf? Now we’re are again dependent on imported oil and the Iranian Navy is making fools of us.

Iran screws with a freighter.
Tensions rise.
Jittery oil market responds knee-jerk like every other time.
Prices rise.
Iran makes money.

Gee wasn’t it just a few years ago when the US was a net exporter of oil and didn’t need to import oil from the Gulf? No, we were never a net exporter. In October 2019 our domestic production of oil peaked at just under 13 million barrels per day. In 2019, we consumed 19.4 million barrels per day. We got close, and much of the imported oil came from our neighbor, but we were not a net exporter of oil. In total energy consumption, the US produced more energy than it used. In May 2011, the US became a net exporter of refined petroleum products. But that's different than a net exporter of oil.

WTI (West Texas Intermediate) was near $77 a barrel in pre-market trading several hours ago.
Currently at $74 a barrel.
I think we need more information.
Brent Crude is showing the same pattern.
Close to $80 in pre-market. Now at $77.
