Yep. Paddling was a core duty of an Assistant Principal in Texas schools including Houston “back in the day”. I know that for a fact but only got it once myself.

Where I went to school, it was the PE coach. You did not want to have a “meeting” with the PE coach.

Yep, in those days the principal was just a figurehead/administrator. The The Asst. Principal was the schools “enforcer”, the badazz disciplinarian that kept your butt on the straight and narrow.
