Christie on Trump possibly skipping debates: ‘Obviously, he’s afraid’
The Hill ^ | 05/03/2023 | Jared Gans

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Wednesday that former President Trump is “afraid” to take the stage in Republican primary debates after Trump, who holds a commanding lead in the GOP polls, floated skipping the events.

Christie, a former Trump ally who has become one of his more vocal Republican critics, told conservative radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt that the GOP should hold “as many” debates as it can and should have an “open format” to allow for follow-up questions and prevent candidates from giving “soundbyte-y answers that nobody believes will solve any problems.”

The GOP should have the same number of debates as the Democrats. The moderators need to be from conservative new services.

Ten debates? People will tune out with that many debates.

They might tune out anyway, if Trump isn’t involved in any debates.

Trump doesn’t need the debates, he’s a proven & known commodity.

The pygmies need debates very very badly.

Think of it as, say the Packers choosing not play the Broncos in the Super Bowl because they know the refs have all been bought and paid for and the game is rigged.

“They might tune out anyway, if Trump isn’t involved in any debates.”

Trump should let the debates go on without him and then in a separate channel give play-by-play analysis of them.

If you are leading your nearest opponent by more than 30 points, why is there a need for a debate? Put all the third tier candidates in a room with boxing gloves and have them settle it personally.

Less than 5% any candidate shouldn’t be on the stage.

These debates are not Superbowls. They are pre-season.

Trump will shine in the real Superbowl in November.

Why? Why should Trump take time to debate with opponents who are 30-40 points behind in the polls?

Let Christie, DeSantis, Vivek, Nikki, etc. do all the debating.
