Chicago Police Department tells businesses to buy Riot Glass product to prevent burglaries

The Chicago Police Department advised businesses in one area of the city to purchase a special kind of glass shield in order to help prevent burglaries.

In a community alert sent out after a string of burglaries in Chicago's Wicker Park and Humboldt Park, police recommended businesses use ArmorPlast, a type of invisible shatterproof shield produced by a company called Riot Glass that is installed over existing glass, to protect themselves, according to a CBS News report Monday.

The advice came after a string of burglaries in the area, with Chicago Police noting that most of the burglaries showed similar characteristics. According to the alert, thieves typically break in from side or front glass windows using rocks, bricks or a crowbar, then enter the business to steal money and other items such as liquor.

When it comes to increasing Chicago crime, the city's leaders and LEOs continue to tell the businesses that it is on them to prevent robberies. A couple months ago, they were told to hire security for their stores, but of course, if security personnel actually try to stop shoplifters or criminal thugs, they may find themselves the one behind bar. Now, the advice is to install shatter-proof window glass.

No one will agree to implement the one solution that will solve the problem. Arrest the criminal, refuse to allow bail for repeat offenders, and have a policy to sentence the thugs to the maximum years in prison allowed by law. If the law doesn't provide for long prison terms, change the law to do so.

If the criminals suddenly find they are spending several years in prison for stealing a couple purses, a bottle of shampoo, or a six-pack of Bud-Light, they may start thinking twice about their actions.

“Chicago Police Department tells businesses to buy Riot Glass product to prevent burglaries”

Instead of that, how about businesses pay taxes to fund a police department.

Oh, wait.

Kind of like building your own cage to protect yourself from the criminals

And in spite of the crime being 99.9% committed by blacks, enforcing the law has been deemed racist. At what point are law abiding people going to have a belly full of this BS and stand up to them?

You know your city is in trouble when your police department is doing commercial testimonials for ArmorPlast riot glass rather than arresting and prosecuting robbers. What’s next - body armor vest testimonials over wasting their time on homicides?

There are those in law enforcement who advocate making body armor illegal to own for common citizens.

Sounds like it just requires that the whole pane of glass be removed after it’s been shattered. Useless.

So they are telling people on one hand it’s their responsibility to protect themselves, but on the other hand condemn *vigilante* justice.

Seems like these days too many politicians and police are on the criminal’s side.

If only the retarded pedophile would give each business an Abrams tank instead of giving everything military to his butt buddy, Zelenskyy.

“Is this like a paid endorsement?”

LOL! It does make one wonder if the police spokesperson or city leaders have an investment in the glass company or if it is owned by a family member of one.

I’m more of a supporter of the Paul Kersey method for stopping rising crime. If you make the punishment painful, history shows you get less crime, no matter how much the left tries to pretend otherwise.

Pill boxes with overlapping fields of fire would be a better use of the money.

Every dead hoodlum is hundreds of crimes prevented.

You’ll find this all over where “loss prevention” technology is supposed to take the place of policing. The criminals are determined. The business is saddled with added costs and the legitimate patrons deal with higher prices and feeling stigmatized by the heavy handed surveillance, security tags, product cages, stores within stores, endless security monitors, unreliable tech like locking carts, etc.

Eventually those who can afford to go elsewhere DO go elsewhere and a tipping point is reached where the business fails or, if large enough, it feels forced to operate at a loss because they are afraid of the bad press and anger from a community that doesn’t value orderly conduct. No accountability.

Closing shops? Racist. Gentrification? Racist. Law & order? Racist. Expecting people to act appropriately? Racist. Not shopping local because of crime? Racist. How dare you feel undignified wading through a disorganized and disorderly store with walls of cameras trying to buy your items. That’s white supremacy and a privileged thinking. Shame on you!

If you allow a retail environment where people feel like they are under siege, are treated and thought of as animals how will they behave? We’re back to the Left’s “soft bigotry of low expectations.” * This is why Rudy went after petty crimes like tagging to improve things in NYC.

* W was talking about educational standards but the point is the same. Treat people as less than human and don’t be surprised at the bad results.

The Left is still back on their outmoded idea that blacks (in particular) can’t learn from the values and culture of the mainstream to achieve success or they are smeared as sell outs and race traitors. Racism is alive and well in woke ideology. As Americans we learn from everybody. We’re a melting pot looking for the best ideas no matter where they originate so we can achieve our dreams.

Agreed. Do not back the blue in any democrat run area, folks. They will act like soldiers for the democrats to keep their pay check even if they are MAGA. This is a sad but true statement.
