"We have a son named Jesus Ernesto. The first name is for Jesus Christ and the second for Ernesto Che Guevara…an exemplary revolutionary who gave his life for his ideals.” (Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez-Obrador, May 17, 2017.)
“For the Chicano Movement …the Cuban Revolution of 1959 stood as a Latino revolutionary influence that told Chicanos that they could also struggle against their own internal colonized status within the U.S. and to achieve their own self-determination. Images of Fidel Castro and especially those of Che Guevara became standard for the Chicano Movement.”
“Mexicans are mostly a rabble of illiterate Indians” (Ernesto ‘Che” Guevara, 1956.)
In the historic annals of unrequited love few cases rival the affair by Mexicans and Chicanos with Che Guevara. I trust Che’s iconization is sufficiently documented by U.S. Chicano groups in their murals (i.e. graffiti.) They seem to plaster this lily white Argentinean racists and Marxist’s (a thoroughly European born and bred ideology) mug on practically everything they paint to celebrate their Amerindian Aztec culture. Go figure.
Perhaps a word with some Bolivian Amerindians who actually experienced Che Guevara’s plans to Stalinize their culture would help. In 1967 these (overwhelmingly indigenous) Bolivians (with help from U.S. Green Berets) made short work of this Chicano/Mexican hero. If a picture’s worth a thousand words than this one’s worth a million. Please note the obvious ethnic compositions of the gentlemen proudly and triumphantly holding their guns over their vanquished European would-be enslaver.

Che Guevara was probably more Irish than Mexican, but he was part Mexican. Californio, to be precise.
Two of Guevara’s notable 18th century ancestors included Luis María Peralta, a prominent Spanish landowner in colonial California, and Patrick Lynch, who emigrated from Ireland to the Río de la Plata Governorate.

"We have a son named Jesus Ernesto. The first name is for Jesus Christ and the second for Ernesto Che Guevara…an exemplary revolutionary who gave his life for his ideals.”That's certainly true as far as it goes. But Che's ideals were mass murder, screwing the family maids, and totalitarian rule. Even Castro couldn't stand him -that's how he ended up in Bolivia.

Obrador is only off by 57 years. The US gave independence to Cuba in 1902, which ended up being a terrible mistake for the US and Cuba. The US should have retained the territory, like Puerto Rico.

About as valid as the declared “holiday”. Mostly a “Hey! Let’s all get drunk!” sorta occasion.

In 1912, the President of Mexico visited England for a diplomatic meeting...While there, he ate a sandwich with a condiment on it he had never tasted...
He loved it....He loved it so much, he ordered 1000 cases of the condiment to be shipped to his country...he wanted his people to be able to taste it...
On the way over, the ship carrying the condiment, which was mayonnaise, hit an iceberg and sank...It was the Titanic!!!!
The President felt so bad, he declared a holiday....
