Trump pushes back on DeSantis ‘culture of losing’ comment: ‘Ron is not a winner’

Former President Trump is pushing back on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s (R) remarks calling on the GOP to reject a “culture of losing” to win in 2024, saying “Ron is not a winner.”

In an interview with The Messenger – a news outlet that launched Monday – Trump rejected the notion that DeSantis is trying to portray Trump as “too caught up in the past” as the governor mulls a potential bid for the White House.

“First of all, I’m not at all caught up in the past. And second of all, I’m doing much better against [President] Biden than he is in the polls, and I’m doing much better against him,” Trump said. “I mean, I’m beating [DeSantis] by 40 points in some polls, so he can talk about what he wants. And third of all, I did very well in the midterms.”

“Ron’s not a winner because Ron without me wouldn’t have won,” Trump added. “If I would have left it alone, he would have lost by 30 points or more.”

DeSantis said at an event over the weekend that Republicans would win if they provide a “positive alternative” to President Biden.

“But there’s no substitute for victory,” he said. “We must reject the culture of losing that has infected our party in recent years.”

Trump has repeatedly taken credit for DeSantis’s win in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial race. He said in the new interview that DeSantis was a “dead as a doornail” in race before he endorsed him.

“He was dead, dead as a doornail. And I revived him. … I’m a loyal person,” he said. “If that happened to me, I would never run against the guy that did that. He’s got plenty of years left. And I think if he runs, he’s gonna lose MAGA votes forever. That’s my opinion. And the MAGA votes are almost everything in the Republican Party, far bigger than you think.”

When asked if he would ever endorse DeSantis, who was overwhelmingly reelected in 2022, Trump said, “It’s too early to say. So far, I’m not a fan of the way that he’s running.”

He also said that DeSantis is not doing well in the polls because he has “no personality” and does not have “a lot of political skill.”

So DeSantis thinks the 2020 race was legitimate? And Trump lost fair-and-square???

Then he is stupider than we thought.

I liked him a bunch, he says good things (sometimes) but this show a remarkable lack of intelligence. He could have waited until 2028 and been a shoe-in for the job.

I really wanted Trump-DeSantis, at first (SHUT UP all you “NoooOOOooooOOooo... they can’t be from the same state, Duhhhhhhh Trump can live anywhere)

Now I think Trump/Lake is a great ticket

Again, I continue to have so much affection for President Trump, and because of that, I get so embarrassed for him.😔

Trump taking shots at DeSantis doesn’t make me like Trump more or DeSantis less. It just makes Trump look pathetic.

I don’t trust either Trump or DeSantis at this point. I’ll vote for whomever the nominee is, but I won’t give any candidate a dime.

We must reject the culture of losing that has impacted our party in recent years. The time for excuses is over,” DeSantis said. “If we get distracted, if we focus the election on the past or on other side issues, then I think the Democrats are going to beat us again.”

I'm not certain what DeSantis had in his mind relative to this comment.

But here's what I'd like to hear from Ron (or Donald): How are you going to flip 38+ electoral votes?

We NEED Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona or some combo theirin.

And this is against the backdrop of mail-in voting, which isn't going away.

flamberge had some good ideas too:

To the extent that we have any legal and peaceful means of winning "elections" it will depend on adopting new tactics and strategies to game the mail-in ballot system.

Committing ballots as early as possible is part of what is needed. Get the ballots with relentless daily tracking of Republican voters and provide them with every possible assistance to turn in a vote.

Preventing last-minute injection of fraudulent ballots is another critical part of what is needed.

Campaign advertising must change. Issues don't really matter all that much. Hard to accept, but how many times does that need to be demonstrated? "Tribal" affiliations override just about everything else.

The biggest factor, however, is not race, nor ethnic background, nor religion. It is gender. Quite simply, the Republicans must focus on appealing to men.

Without any apology, the Republicans must project hyper-masculine imagery in everything they do, even to the point of caricature.

It is the one strategy that can draw enough Black and Hispanic men to cripple the Democrat voter base. They have become too dependent on 90% turnout in those demographics, to win without them. Even a minor shift will make a major problem for the Democrats. They would need to extend their fraud efforts to preposterous levels in order to deal with the defectors.

The Democrats might indeed extend fraud to such an obvious level that they can demonstrate no further need for elections ever again.

If so, then everybody will proceed to settle political conflicts by other means.

Really, thoughtful ideas.

And yet there REMAINS a large Culture of Losing in conservative-villa. There are LOTS of surrendercons who'd rather have Bud Light with their whine and cheese, bitch and moan that all is lost, and fantasize about CWII bravely from behind a keyboard. These people would have surrendered to the Japanese after they didn't fight fairly at Pearl Harbor.

So Ron, what's the plan? You too, Donald.

“Kind of rich coming from a guy who lost his last election...”

So, you really think that Biden got 81 million votes. No wonder you like DeSantis.

“Trump has to stop this crap and start running against O’Biden.”

Trump has been running against Biden since day one, and has to run against DeSantis because DeSantis is running against him and not Biden.

Bush,Dole,Bush,McCain,Romney..

The R team had to have a former Democrat billionaire infiltrate their swamp party to get an America First President.

That party has hacks in DC and all 50 states, some in places with questionable voting results in 2020..

The R party deserves to be drained too..

Play the stupid game stupid party..

Go ahead

Lake never won an election and will say anything to be declared a winner. She is a minor media mogul playing politician and that's all she will ever be.

Politically....worthless.

Trump’s support among minorities makes him a legitimate threat in NV. GA, AZ are clear pick up opportunities. So the race comes down to WI. I do think PA would naturally be a Trump zone too but the mail-in changes and the cheating there have most likely made that state Rat only. If the Repukes actually want to win with Trump it would be very easy. They, however, would rather Biden so it’s going to be tough. As for Desanctimonius...I don’t actually care about his path. He’s not what the country needed regardless if he can win or not. I’m more into the actual term and a Trump term (unconstrained from thoughts of reelection) is what the country needed in 2020 and is what the country needs now. Nothing else will do.

This misconception that Trump attacked Ron 1st is a blatant lie. Check the dates of when DeSantis endorsed anti-MAGA ODea for RINO Mitch, and when Trump started in on Ron. Ron attacked Trump 1st per the dates. Desantis has been calling Trump a loser essentially for months and in Iowa yesterday.

Then there’s RINO Odea who went on CNN and said he would do all he can to defeat Trump and ALL the MAGA Republicans and Desantis (10/22) immediately endorsed him after that. Had Trump endorsed someone who vowed to stop DeSantis you’d think that was uncalled for.

And what was the point of the last 8 yrs of trying to make a strong Republican Party if we’re going to completely outcast all of them except one? Again it’s politics but DeSantis needs to remember he shouldn’t have been doing deals w/the people trying take out ALL the strong republicans.
