One of America’s most popular guns is a “ticking time bomb” that allegedly fires spontaneously and has injured dozens of cops.
The SIG Sauer P320 semi-automatic handgun is used by some 1,000 law enforcement agencies from the local to the federal level, as well as being a popular civilian purchase.
But its manufacturer is facing a slew of lawsuits alleging that it can fire even when holstered, even when the trigger isn’t pulled, and even when it is just sitting at rest, lawyers allege.
According to the suits against SIG Sauer, some 150 people claim to have suffered injuries, or frightening near misses, when their department-issued P320 went off on its own.
One law enforcement source told The Post, “The P320 isn’t just a gun, it’s a ticking time bomb.”

Seems very unlikely to me.
Good thing they were not issued the 1911A1.
My personal choice is ALWAYS SA/DA with decock lever. And I don't like these striker fired pistols and their derivatives.
I will stick with hammer fired pistols, thank you very much. The one exception is my Glock mod 40 MOS.
HUH? I thought they were all rampantly firing on their own. Lets bring in arec barwin.
Stupid Retard LEOs. Keep your Booger Hooks of the Bang Switch.
My 1911A1, cocked and locked. Was trained that way.
The trigger of the Remington 700 was proven to go off on its own. One had to perform a specific number of steps to make it happen but when one did the steps and then clicked it off safety, the rifle fired a round without touching the trigger.
I trust memory serves with these details.
This is old news. There was an issue with the Gen 1 P320’s where the weapon could discharge if dropped a certain way.
Sig made a change in the machining to correct the problem. They also offered the fix to those whose weapons were affected. To my knowledge, the problem has been resolved.
I own a P-320 and have never had a problem with the weapon “accidentally discharging” either holstered or otherwise and I always carry one in the pipe.
“Stupid Retard LEOs. Keep your Booger Hooks of the Bang Switch.”
That’s my thought.
But there’s so many of ‘em.
Yeah, they pulled the trigger. Each and every one of them.
Maybe used 320’s will hit the streets cheap?
The M17 full size (Army) and the shorter M18 (USMC, USN, USAF, USSF).
I really wanted one for myself but now I'm not so sure. Maybe I'll just stick with my tried-and-true M1911.
Seems like a design flaw
Maybe they were trained by Alec Baldwin
Strange story?
Doesn't make sense. 🤔
I have two Sig 226 and several Colts but I am sold on striker fire semi pistols. I just shoot more accurate with them. My EDC is the the little known Ruger SRC9. I can shoot the wings off a fly at 25 yards with it. YMMV. Go with what works for you.
Cops never believe civvies who say that.
A review of the firing mechanism design would show whether this is even possible. Perhaps a key firing component is not made to spec, or been altered/damaged to allow it?
I doubt it though. Guns just dont fire on their own. None I’ve ever known did that.
The M1911 shoots better than any other pistol I’ve handled.
But it’s primitive.
I like the older Sigs, HKs and Berettas with SA/DA and Decock lever.
This was a known “problem” years ago, even before the Army got them. There are mainstream “gun guys” on YouTube who test them by smacking them on the back of the slide with a mallet, and they are able to make them fire with alarming regularity.
........about 30 years ago myself and 2 friends were riding down the beachfront highway in Galveston when BANG!.... my 45 automatic went off inside the console. To say the least, we all had to stop at the hotel and change underwear!
As I recall, the gun was a Colt and I am clear (in my memory) it had what was back then called a “satin” finish.
I had several auto’s back then and got rid of all of them. Basically, I think (my humble opinion) any BRAND of auto will go off. I think very rarely but they are all capable of it. I now stick to revolvers and keep them on an empty chamber.
Yea, let’s hope cheap. Other than holster marks, unused.
Ping for later - will review for evidence of demonic possession.
Don’t carry chambered with the 320. Super light trigger. Love mine.
there is something about the beauty of that primitivity...ah the venerable M1911A1. Truly a pistol for all occasions.
