Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) should pay millions for pursuing the now-discredited theory that former President Donald Trump colluded with Russia ahead of the 2016 presidential election, according to a House Republican.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed a privileged resolution on Tuesday afternoon to "censure, condemn, and fine" Schiff $16 million, which is half the cost of the special counsel investigation of Russian election inference led by Robert Mueller. Schiff led a similar investigation during his time as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
"I just filed a privileged resolution, H. Res. 437, to censure, condemn, and fine Rep. Adam Schiff $16 million (1/2 the cost of Russia investigation) for his egregious abuse of trust," Luna tweeted. "I, with my GOP colleagues, look forward to an imminent vote to hold this feckless man accountable."
Luna filed a motion on May 17 to expel Schiff after the Durham report cast doubt on whether the FBI should have investigated connections between Trump and Russia. Many Republicans have deemed the investigation into Trump a political stunt and "weaponization" of the federal government.
Schiff has been a longtime target of the Republican caucus due to the role he played in Trump's impeachment and in the investigation into whether Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election
"Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intel to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars," Luna said last week. "He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives."
The California Democrat responded to Luna's first motion, saying "MAGA" Republicans would "go after anyone who defends the rule of law."
A representative for Schiff pointed to a tweet from the congressman as a response to the situation.
"MAGA extremists just filed a motion to censure and fine me $16 million because I stood up to Donald Trump and his allies," Schiff's tweet reads. "They’re 8 days away from defaulting on our debt, but Speaker McCarthy and his MAGA allies would rather try to silence me."
The motions against Schiff, if carried out, could endanger his chances of succeeding Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), who is retiring after this term. Reps. Katie Porter (D-CA) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) are also running for Feinstein's seat in 2024.
where would congress people get that kind of money...
if some stranger can sue Trump for rape and defamation that never happened, then I think Trump should be able to sue this hack for billions!
But wouldn't that mean a DC jury? If so, they would end up ruling Trump owed Schitt billions.
file suit in the most conservative district in the US.
In his petty cash drawer.
Schiff would attempt to claim DC jurisdiction. Perhaps though someone who was harmed by his lies could file a complaint in the jurisdiction where they reside or do business.
sadly so...
I miss Rush. He used to call him pencil neck.
Standing ovation for Rep. Anna Paulina Luna.
$16 million wouldn’t come close to the cost he caused the feds to spend but it’s a start.
Schiff: “pursuing the now-discredited theory”
Trump: “election lies!”
Go it.
“”look forward to an imminent vote to hold this feckless man accountable.””

Schiff objects strenuously, claiming ne has lots of feckles.
