Ships pile up in West Coast ports in labor fight, threatening supply chain chaos

Ships are piling up in some West Coast ports and commercial shipping prices are spiking amid a labor fight between port operators and workers, threatening to trigger a new round of supply chain disruptions that could lead to shortages or higher prices.

The fight is sparking concerns among lawmakers who worry surging container prices could ripple through the economy and hit all sorts of consumer goods in a repeat of supply chain problems following pandemic shutdowns.

“The shippers I know are afraid of what might happen if we shut down our ports,” said Rep. Val Hoyle (D-Ore.), a member of the House Transportation Committee. “People are concerned.”

Hey, celebrate the job action to stop the import of Chinese goods. Maybe even get Ukraine to sink those ships off the coast.

So, the supply chain from China is interrupted by labor strife at the Los Angeles port of entry. What else is new? They have been doing this since the early days of COVID-19.

China, and particularly Chairman Xi and the CCP, have been kicking in our teeth for DECADES, first by making our own internal supply lines atrophy by underbidding manufacturers of many of our pharmaceuticals and common household goods, and essentially exporting the jobs to China. Thus made highly dependent on the whims of the CCP, the US faces sometimes unreasonable delays in shipments, and the disloyalists right within our own country amend and extend these disruptions to the point of creating real shortages of sometimes vital goods, for which we have no alternative supply chains.

China does not have to fight an active war with the US, they have already strangled much of our logistics and strategic placement of our various capabilities to strike at mainland China. They just have to starve us out.

West Coast ports shut down as union workers ‘no show’ after breakdown in wage negotiations

CNBC EXCERPT:

. . . not a formal strike, the source told CNBC to expect stoppages at other West Coast ports as union workers refuse to report for assignments, with operations also reportedly stopping at the port hub of Los Angeles, including Fenix Marine, the APL terminal, and Port of Hueneme, which processes automobiles and perishables - bananas the largest import in that category . . .

In an ILWU press release, International President Willie Adams said talks have “not broken down” and added “we aren’t going to settle for an economic package that doesn’t recognize the heroic efforts and personal sacrifices of the ILWU workforce that lifted the shipping industry to record profits.”

The stoppages come at a time when activity at West Coast ports had picked up again after losing volume to the East Coast ports due to concerns about the volatile labor situation.

At the Port of Oakland, total container volume increased for two consecutive months, with port officials optimistic about the upswing. It is the eighth-largest port in the country, importing a wide range of items, from Australian wine and meat, to aluminum from South Korea, and clothing, electronics and furniture from China.

Its a damned shame that every port on the West Coast is in a liberal whack-job state. No common sense. I’m beginning to like the idea of open trade with Mexico (or at least West Coast Mexican ports) more and more.

All we need is a major earthquake along wit a doubling of illegals imported before the next election. We’re really setting us up for the next ‘stop everything’ event. Think Covid.

Biden’s handlers won’t solve this.

Does anyone think Trump would not handle this situation in a quick fashion?

I just wish the truckers would protest and stop deliveries to DC, NEW YORK, LA, PRTLAND, OR, SEATTLE, etc.

In a couple of years California is going to force Trucks to be EV. The truckers should just give it up now.
