Pro-Russian hackers allege "massive” cyberattack on Western financial system; led by Medibank hackers (SWIFT also a target)

Pro-Russian hacking outfits Killnet, REevil and Anonymous Sudan have allegedly formed an alliance to launch a concerted cyberattack on the Western financial system, particularly targeting the SWIFT wire transfer system, according to CyberKnow.

Forged in the underground hacking forums, the groups stated their “no money – no weapons – no Kiev regime” formula to cut off the pipeline of Western aid to Ukraine.

Their primary target is the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) system, which powers most international money and security transfers, failure of which could potentially cripple the Western financial system.

Other targets in their crosshairs include European and US banks and the US Federal Reserve System.

Spearheaded by REvil, one of the most notorious cybercrime syndicates in the world, and supported by Killnet, its close successor, their threats should not be taken lightly.

REvil was responsible for the Medibank data breach last year, where sensitive health records of nearly 10 million Australians were compromised in a cyberattack that shook the nation.

Revil has enough of a history of hacking, that there is a wiki page for it/them. Something to note, going into the weekend. Supposedly Russia made arrests awhile ago, to which the US applauded.

REvil (Ransomware Evil; also known as Sodinokibi) was a Russia-based[1] or Russian-speaking[2] private ransomware-as-a-service (RaaS) operation.[3] After an attack, REvil would threaten to publish the information on their page Happy Blog unless the ransom was received. In a high profile case, REvil attacked a supplier of the tech giant Apple and stole confidential schematics of their upcoming products. In January 2022, the Russian Federal Security Service said they had dismantled REvil and charged several of its members.

Another source here, with no references to SWIFT.

Several hacker groups have announced a large scale attack on the European banking system. According to Lenta.ru, we are talking about representatives of Killnet, Anonymous Sudan and Revil.

If they wanted to be 'white hats', while they're mucking around do to the WEF connected fear most---exposure.

Sort of like the scene in the first 'Iron Man' where he pulls the thug terrorizing a village into the street and tells the villagers: "he's all yours".

"do to the WEF connected fear most---exposure"

Should be: do to the WEF connected what they fear most---exposure

sounds like Russia is getting desperate

guess Vlady’s “simple little 3-day conquest” isn’t working out as planned

which horse got stung by the whip?

obviously, the one that cries out

which sanctions are hurting Russia the most?

obviously, the ones Russia tries to attack - like SWIFT

(in other words, Russia is admitting - through their actions - that the sanctions are effective, thanks for blinking Vlady LOL!!)

I expect an attack on the air traffic control infrastructure. Remember the last couple shut downs due to software problems?

This has been done before, and can be done again...

From February 2021 (Bloomberg):

Fed Outage Raises Questions on Wall Street as Services Restored

For about four hours Wednesday, Federal Reserve systems that execute millions of financial transactions a day -- everything from payroll to tax refunds to interbank transfers -- were disrupted by what appeared to be some sort of internal glitch.

OK, I’m not up on cyber culture so much. But it seems strange to me that they would announce an attack and the target of that attack in advance. Why announce everything?

Feb 24 (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve says its Fedwire Funds, Fedcash and some check clearing services have resumed normal operations after a more than three-hour disruption to more than a dozen critical central bank payment services forming the backbone of the U.S. banking system.

The National Settlement Service and the Fedwire Securities Service, which provides issuance, settlement and transfer services for Treasuries and other government securities, have also been restored, the Fed said.

"Our technical teams have determined that the cause is a Federal Reserve operational error," the Fed said on Wednesday on its website. "The Federal Reserve Banks have taken steps to help ensure the resilience of the Fedwire and NSS applications, including recovery to the point of failure."

Possibly because they want “authorities” (ie, the banking cabal), to know who is responsible, if/when they pull it off as predicted. To claim afterwards would have muddied the responsibility.

If it does not happen, then.... the usual Emily Latella routine.

NSA can “deep fake” any hack and “assign” it to whoever they want.
