“Poland supports Ukraine because it is the best way to check Russia, which is an existential threat to Poland’s freedom.“
Except for the fact that Poland is in NATO and Ukraine is not.
(which also happens to be a provocation for Russia’s incursion - the wests attempt to envelope Ukrainian into NATO.)
Also, except for the fact that Ukraine shares a border with Russia and Poland does not.
So nah
Check your geography. Poland has a small and fraught border with Russia. And, like the Baltic states, Russia’s other neighbors, and east Europe in general, the populace of Ukraine wants affiliation with the West instead of being under the thumb of the the thuggish, corrupt, and exploitative Russians.
Let’s not pretend the Kaliningrad exclave is an invasion route to Poland.
Also, let’s not pretend Ukraine is anything other than a former Soviet state, just like Russia, and an original founding constituent member of the USSR (unlike Poland, or Hungary, or Czech).
Throughout history, Ukraine has had its own identity and for long eras was independent. Nevertheless, Ukraine was politically part of Poland for far longer than it was part of Russia.
After the fall of the USSR, Ukrainians noticed that living standards and the way of life was much better and improving in Poland but not so much in Russia. No matter what happened in history, the Ukrainians get a choice in their future. And I have no doubt that especially now, Ukrainians prefer affiliation with the US and NATO to affiliation with Russia.
The Toba eruption led to something like 6 years of nuclear winter. It is also suggested it killed off the human population to no more than 10,000 people, thus creating certain problems in our gene pool.
Poland splitting the Ukraine with Russia, would bring Russia
half a nation closer to Poland’s borders.
I’m not sold on the merits of that idea, and I’m not sold on
the idea that Poland is. The argument was raised by Russia
I believe, when Russia tried to say it was important that
it occupied the eastern half of the nation, because Poland
had designs on the Western half.
I’ve not seen any evidence that Poland was eyeing Western
Poland for invasion. Was it’s forces and supplies on the
Eastern side of Poland standing by prepared to invade.
Ah, no. (not to my knowledge)
I know - it will not be that bad but there is nothing else in human history to compare with the blowing of the 6 reactors to on the scale of human devastation and problems it will cause.
I think you meant to say Ukraine.
“I’ve not seen any evidence that Poland was eyeing Western
Poland [Ukraine] for invasion.”
Yes, thanks...
