While most of the fireworks from Special Counsel John Durham’s testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday came from contentious questioning by the Democrats, toward the end of the hearing, there were some additional pyrotechnics compliments of the Republican members. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) ceded some of his time to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), at which point Gaetz took after Durham in a rather unexpected turn. (Video is cued up to the introduction of Gaetz’s questioning.)
First, Massie set the scene:
Massie: Mr. Durham, this seems to have all started with one person, but I don’t see his name in your report — I see it in Mueller‘s report 89 times. Who did Mr. Papadopoulos meet with that gave him this supposed Russian information?
Durham: When Mr. Papadopoulos was interviewed by the FBI, he had identified Joseph Mifsud as the person who provided him that information.
Massie: Did you interview Joseph Mifsud?
Durham: We attempted to interview him. We pursued every lead that we had. We talked to a lawyer that he had in Europe. But we never were able to actually make contact with him so we could interview him.
Massie: Do you think he’s a western source? Is he associated with Western intelligence?
Durham: It’s hard to say who Mr. Mifsud is associated with — he was tied up with Link University, Mr. Scotti, who had involvement in the Italian government, and they were acquainted — hard to say who Mifsud is…

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who knew how to find someone more competent and trustworthy than Durham and Barr and Wray? Lest we all forget the FIRST heap of trouble Trump got into was because he asked MUELLER to be his head of FBI.

Gaetz put on a great show, as usual today.
However, despite him being my favorite in Washington the last few years, it appears he like others may be all bark and no bite. Trump is the best at it, but since we never actually score any points, it could be all for show, and fundraising.
Where are the hearings on articles of impeachment? They've already been in the new Republican Congress for like 6 months already. That means we're already 2 years and 6 months into the Biden disaster.

Today Lauran Boebart presented articles of impeachment for joe biden.
To a certain extent Durham was hamstrung by the constraints on the scope of the investigation he was put under by Bill Barr. It’s almost as if Barr knew beforehand what had happened and he blocked Durham from pursuing the ringleaders and main conspiracy plotters to protect the guilty
Thanks, and I saw her on Bannon's show today discussing that. Are we to expect this to actually gather support, and hearings to finally begin, though? Who is calling for it, other than far right people like her? Trump? Not that I've seen. His chosen Speaker, McCarthy? Not a word, yet. At least not that I've seen.

President Trump has said repeatedly that Robert Mueller interviewed for the FBI director job just before he was appointed as special counsel in May 2017.
Mueller provided more context about that conversation, from his point of view, under tough questioning from GOP Rep. Greg Steube.
Mueller said he was asked by the President for input about on the post, but said he was not interviewing for the job itself.
Here’s the exchange:
Mueller: My understanding, I was not applying for the job. I was asked to give my input about what it would take to do the job, which, triggered the interview you are talking about.
Steube: So you don’t recall on May 16, 2017 that you interviewed with the President, regarding the FBI Director job?
Mueller: I interviewed with the President and it was about the job but not about me applying for the job.
Steube: So your statement here today is that you didn’t interview to apply for the FBI director job?
Mueller: That’s correct.

And what is Gaetz going to do about it? He’s impotent, an embarrassment and an example of the All Talk, No Action Republicans in Congress. I’m sure Durham was laughing all the way home after that hearing.
There are less than 5 such persons in the entire DC swamp.
