Debris has been found in the search for the missing Titan submersible, reportedly including parts of its outside cover. Dive expert David Mearns told the BBC the president of the Explorers Club - which is connected to the diving and rescue community - says the debris includes "a landing frame and a rear cover from the submersible". The US Coast Guard earlier confirmed a "debris field" had been found within the search area. It was located by a remote-controlled underwater search vehicle (ROV) near the wreck of the Titanic. A US Coast Guard news conference is scheduled for 1500 EST (1900 GMT) on Thursday afternoon. The Titan vessel went missing in a remote area of the North Atlantic on Sunday with a four-day oxygen supply for its crew of five.
Some experts have speculated that it could have suffered a catastrophic implosion as a result of a hull failure. The minivan-sized submersible was owned and operated by the private company OceanGate Expeditions. The firm's co-founder, Guillermo Söhnlein, told the BBC that he believes there may have been an "instantaneous implosion" of the craft. "If that's what happened, that's what would have happened four days ago," he said.

Yeah, I saw that same video - and I would have second thoughts about getting into that thing in a *swimming pool*.
Yes. But I am still uncertain about the communications system; from what I have read, there were 2 different periods of PING types.
1. A PING was sent from the submersible every 30 seconds, and that informed the submersible of its position relative to the surface mothership. That was the method for navigation of the submersible in the descent “water column.” This PING method could include a short string of text characters.
2. A PING would be sent from the submersible every 15 ssconds, if there was an emergency/serious problem.
At approx. 105 minutes into the 150 minutes (estimated) descent, the expected 30 second PING was not sent, and no 30 second PING’s followed.
Apparently, at least 2 of the 15 second type PING’s occured.
105 [minutes] / 150 [minutes] = 0.7
0.7 x 12,500 ft [depth of Titanic] = 8,750 ft
Somewhere around that depth, may be when the submersible had dropped some weight . . . that was discovered by the ROV that found the weight framework and submersible’s tailcone on the seabed approx. 1,600 ft away from the Titanic’s bow.
No...the area was free of any of titanic debris.
I agree. 5 inches doesn’t seem adequate for this land lover. Church impressed me as very arrogant.
A lot of the difference between a memorial tour and a tourist attraction ride is the attitude and atmosphere. There is a big difference between a reverent walking tour around Arlington National Cemetery and a bunch of drunken frat boys staggering around the same facility waving open beers and the like.
Go watch the promotional videos from this company. They definitely were not offering a reverent visit to a historical site and had more of a frat-boy-check-out-what-I-can-do-while-we-gawk-at-the-dead-stupid-people vibe.
That was the landing framework, not a weight framework per se. It and the fairing were attached to the pressure hull and the framework was not jettisonable.
I mean, there wasn’t even a way to get out from the inside even if you successfully completed an emergency surfacing maneuver. You were literally put in the thing and then the hatch was bolted down with seventeen bolts from the outside.
It was stated the toilet facility might be better defined as a zip lock bag.

The 1600ft # is the distance of the debris field, on the sea floor, to the Titanic.
I agree. I still think that it gradually descended to the sea floor, under no power, and sat there for a time before imploding. The reports and numbers are not adding up. There is still the matter of wether or not the CG had contact with the craft prior to the craft people calling it in after eight hours of no communication. Their stories do not correspond. For example, loss of communication does not correlate with time of implosion and tight debris field on the sea floor.
My father died from war wounds when I was 4 yrs. old. I toured a submarine from the war and was amazed how I ‘felt’ walking and touching that part of history - I felt sort of connected to the father I could no longer touch. I wasn’t expecting that tour to be so profound. I was like touching his time of life, being there in a sense.

Former US Navy Captain David Marquet tells TalkTV that people should not expect to find any remains following the deaths aboard the Titan submersible. He warned that people underestimate the power of the sea, and speaking about the damage caused by an underwater implosion in the depths of the ocean he said: “I hate to say it but there’s no bodies to recover. The implosion is so rapid.” When they say catastrophic implosion, it is a instantaneous destruction of the vessel and an instantaneous death for everyone on board.”

It was said bolting on the outside is not all that unusual for certain types of explorations and vehicles.
America is slowly losing its connection to its own past. It used to be that American history was a part of my personal history. Over my first several decades I relived the major events of our common heritage. The Titanic was part of that. I can’t quite reconcile this “mickey mouse” venture with the place that the Titanic holds in the common heritage of the West.
