Elon Musk’s Twitter faces a 28-day ultimatum from Australia’s internet safety watchdog to take decisive action against what it considers online abuse and “hate speech,” or face daily fines of $475,000.

France24 reports that Julie Inman Grant, Australia’s eSafety commissioner, has issued a stern warning to Twitter in a move to muzzle free speech. Twitter has been given 28 days to prove that it is serious about combating what Australia considers online abuse and “hate speech.” There could be daily fines of $700,000 AUD ($475,000 USD) for noncompliance.

Could the weasels seize physical assets that he might have in Australia?

Australia. Key number: 0.33%

Of world population, that is (lucky bastards, having all that land).

I think Musk can do the math on that.

He doesn’t have to cut off anything. As long as he has no assets or infrastructure in Australia then he can tell them to shove their fines up their butts. Australia has no jurisdiction in America.

Thank You. So many people now, even here, want to bow to the coming Global order without countries having their own sovereignty.

Seems to be a “thing” down there...happened to watch some Oz TV series and this declaration preceded every episode as the lead-in.

Some serious guilt-tripping going on there...cleanses the soul, perhaps.

I did not understand at first, either. But from your observation I now gather it is a pervasive propaganda public relations statement, perhaps enforced by the state. Weird, but there it is...🤷‍♂️

Australia’s Ultimatum: Elon Musk’s Twitter Has 28 Days to Combat ‘Online Hate’ or Face Hefty Fines

And this is *EXACTLY* why the first amendment must be made to apply to all mass communications systems.

We should not ever let those foreign bastards decide what Americans are allowed to talk about.

If American Law absolutely requires free speech, than sh*theaded countries like Australia can whine all they want, but US companies have to allow free speech anyways, despite efforts by other governments to censor it.

Cut off all aussie twitter accounts.

Not good enough. That will just damage Twitter and make it more economically unviable.

We need American laws to *FORCE* companies to carry all speech by Americans and make it *ILLEGAL* to censor it for any reason, especially at the direction of a foreign country or even our own government.

Make it a criminal offense for Australia to fine American companies for speech, and issue arrest warrants for those f***ing Australian thugs who presume to censor American speech.

This is it folks. We either *REQUIRE* free speech, or we won't have it at all. Corrupt and nasty foreign government are already reaching into our society and *ORDERING* companies to censor speech they don't like.

We should absolutely not tolerate it. We are doomed if we do.

If the servers are located outside Australia, does Australia have any jurisdiction?

* * *

Yes, indeed. And Musk can go over the top of Australia with this Space X low-earth orbit comms satellites.

Imagine if the people who control Wikipedia’s propaganda were in control of Twitter or SpaceX? I’m glad we’ve got a freedom of speech ally in Musk.

And yet, I don’t think Musk is totally pure in that regard. He still needs to compromise sometimes to move the football forward. I’m content for now that he is challenging the fake media and deep state.

That they could do, if there are any such assets.

A completely different situation exists for Musk in China. He wants access to the Chinese EV markets to sell Teslas, and he also values minerals developed in battery technology. I admire Elon Musk, but I’ll be interested to see how beholden to the CCP he has become. N

The jury is still out regarding China. By comparison, Australia has no hold over Musk.

I think his best bet would be to create bizarre pro-government propaganda, touting each and every leader in the majority party, as the only content on Aus Twitter for an entire month. Nobody else would be allowed to post anything, or if they did, it would be taken down on the grounds that anything not pro-government is *by definition*, ‘Online Hate’.

And if the government itself tried to post anything, it would be rejected as not being pro-government *enough*.

No twitter for Oz, no Starlink for Oz and no Space X for Oz.

They can communicate with didgeridoos.
