People do whatever they can to avoid mailing letters now. I found out that the cost of mailing a certified return receipt letter is now humongous. About the same as buying a simple fast food meal.
In the later 60s, when in uniform and pennies counted, I recall stamps going up to 6 cents per stamp, and hearing and reading much complaining.
Fast forward to this year's increase.
No big, I can afford it. That's not the issue.
Many folks on fixed incomes and businesses cannot.
And, the reverse multiplier effects are that much less commerce will be done via the mails, and the projected profit from the increases will (my easy guess) will fall substantially short.
From 3 cents to 63 cents in 70 years!
Down to my last twenty Liberty Bell Forever stamps, dated 2009. At about six stamps a year, I’m good for another 3-4 years, but I may buy again this year before the price increases, to hedge my bets. It’s not like the price will go down and they’ll lose value.

It's the Law! Ordinally, as you can see.
It's amazing how much knowledge accumulates by running these seemingly pointless little trails for wherever they might go. The stuff I can pull out of a hat.. always fun!
Why don’t they just make it an even dollar for a stamp?
This cents thing has always bugged me, nobody sells stamps individually anymore anyway. Just make a book of stamps $10.
I’ve read we now have 23% inflation rate.
She’s gonna BLOW !
Biden MUST GO!
I remember 3 cent stamps-—but I am OLD.
YOU can BUY stamps in any quantity you wish at my local post office.
No. Once you buy the FOREVER stamp, it has the value to mail the same things forever. The stamp will not have a dollar value marked on it although it will always have the value of a one ounce first class mailing. It remains contemporary.
So...you can buy a bunch of FOREVER stamps before the cost goes up and save 5.4% over purchasing the same stamps next month.
A lot of convenience stores sell individual stamps….I’m sure the post office would too .
….
Who still use stamps?
Huh?
Okay. Thanks.
In the rare cases where I use stamps at all, I tend to purposely over-stamp so my mail won’t boomerang back to me.
Nothing worse than the recipient getting their birthday or anniversary card long after the fact.
...or with postage due!
I once had a package arrive with postage due because a vendor used a free priority mail box and put 1st class postage on it. What a great way to lose customers!
“Wasn’t the basic idea of a ‘Forever’ stamp that it would always stay at that price?”
No. It was that no matter when you purchased it you could use it to mail a First Class letter no matter what the current price for a stamp is.

Hard-copy email.
I do, though not as much as I used to. And on ocassion I have to mail a package.
