Congressional Democrats have joined in bipartisan effort to reform the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act amid abuses exposed in special counsel probes and in federal court. But GOP outrage over the matter, including recent calls out impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland over such matters, has likely hurt such efforts.
Congressional reauthorization of FISA is due in December, with particular focus on Section 702 of the law, which permits the government to conduct targeted surveillance on foreign people outside the U.S., with the assistance of electronic communication service providers, to acquire foreign intelligence information.
Beyond concerns about FISA abuses, lawmakers are also concerned about the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, otherwise known as the FISA Court, which oversee requests for surveillance warrants against foreign spies inside the U.S by federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Let's hope that Congress disbands the entire Court.
Exactly, the reform that is needed is to end the court permanently, it’s like everything in government, once it starts it never ends and despite all the assurances gets abused.
Thank you, GWB for this law.
END IT !!!
I don’t think anyone is really too worried about the GOP blocking reauthorization of the FISA court.
We will see the usual Sturm und Drang, the usual caterwauling. But come December, as usual they will fall in line.
Slap their hands hard enough, they will give up.
Now is not the time to go wobbly, Kevin McCarthy. This is a civil liberties issue, and even the liberals should be getting on board.
That is, if there are any real liberals left, and not these phony liberals who are practicing deceit.
Abuse is baked in the cake with a secret court. It’s unAmerican to have them.
Sadly, I think the lust for power and control over the populace is endemic to the majority of Washington, regardless of party they all want the same thing, control the populace thru surveillance, the FISA short of a revolution will probably never go away.
Then entire misnomered Patriot Act, yes. And defund the CIA and FBI while they're at it.
Right, because public scrutiny of Creep State crimes is an effective line of defense. /rimshot
Give this task to RFKjr, fade the heat.
Perhaps the greatest betrayal of the ends of Justice by Durham was the failure to prosecute Comey and McCabe for perjury. Don’t remember the configuration, but each personally signed at least one FISA application swearing the FBI had probable cause for Russian collusion
I can name several posters here who love the fact that the system abused Trump the way that it did. They love the way the system continues to abuse Trump.
You know who you are....and everyone else does too.
Agree. When they created it I said it was just begging to be abused. It just doesn’t take that long to go to a regular judge to get a warrant. There was never a good reason for FISA.
Anyone who thinks the deep state is going to let FISA lapse is smoking fentanyl-laced weed.
