German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach is pushing for a ban to prevent smoking in cars where minors and pregnant women are passengers.
Smoking in cars is not currently illegal in Germany. The plan, which is part of Lauterbach's draft proposal to legalize cannabis, aims to expand the existing Non-Smokers Protection Act.
The expansion of the smoking ban, which already applies in public transport, is intended to "ensure the necessary protection from passive smoking for this particularly vulnerable group of people," according to the draft cited by RND.
Smoking in cars has been proven to pose higher risks due to the small space volume.
The draft also includes applying the ban to tobacco cigarettes, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and cannabis — although such details could be changed during discussions with ministers.
A government statement said a ban on smmoking in cars with children would be "unconditionally welcomed." But with cars representing private, personal space, it warned of constitutional concerns over any such ban.

well at least they are thinking of the CHILDREN (SARC)
All based on science of course.
Smoking bans in the workplace started in the 90s.
That means, based on the science, that everyone born 1972 or earlier is going to die of a smoking related illness.
How many German cars have children?
Of all German ‘minister’s from the past 40 years....you could rank him up there at the top as saying 100 things, and achieving five of them at best.
Even the Cannabis ‘regulation’, which was supposed to have been wrapped up by December of 2022, has not wrapped up and some people say it won’t be presented to the Bundestag even by December 2023.
As for smoking in cars and regulating it, you’d have to rely upon kids in the vehicle/family...calling the cops and reporting dad/mom. Once presented to the public in regulation form...I’m pretty sure that an opposition party will just utter ‘Nazi-like’ and the German news media would fall all over themselves to avoid the comparison to 1930s Germany.
So I’ll predict as Doctor Lauterbach presents this in law-form...it fails to pass. Maybe it’s written into the cannabis law, and the desire is to fail the law by inserting this no-smoking-in-the-car logic.
Not a smoker, but dad was.
Whenever we went from city to country driving,
I recall that the first smoke that came into the backseat
smelled really good.
Shortly after, it was awful as always.
In France they end all these silly laws by burning up the whole car.
It stops having to spend time passing goofy laws.
Ending child trafickking is way out of their realm.
I don't know about krautkars, but here's a proud mom posing with her Baby Austin:
In the immortal words of the biggest
empty headed Prez, Obama stated
its above my pay grade
I actually support that.
I can clearly remember nightmarish like rides with my grand father and father. Grandpa was a chain smoker of cigarettes and dad smoked cigars. Myself at about 9 and my younger first cousin at about 5 were forced to spend hours with watering eyes and coughing in winter rides.
It was selfish of them, unfair to us and in general unhealthy for kids with developing lungs.
My grandpa died of lung cancer at a relatively young age if 66 and I cherish my years left with my Dad at 81. It’s not a matter of like or dislike its just what is right.
What if they all have been jabbed? Is it safer then?

Meanwhile...
And considering we now have an even better what THC can do to a fetus...
None of this is about public health or protecting children, is it...
I was in the repo business for many years. I’ve seen lots of cars like that.
